Score: 911
Genre: R&B / Dance

TaeYang1
Album: Tae Yang mini-album "Hot" Track 3 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Jumping all the way from No. 9 to No. 1 is Big Bang member Tae Yang’s first solo hit "Watching Only You", ending weeks of domination by SG Wannabe, MC Mong, and Epik High in the top 3. Just like other Big Bang songs, this hasn’t taken long to reach No. 1. It also leapfrogged a lot of strong challengers. It is also the new No. 1 song on MNet’s M!Countdown so this top spot is well deserved.

2. (+3) V.O.S – Beautiful Life
Score: 866
Genre: R&B mid-tempo ballad

VOS3
Album: V.O.S Vol. 3 Track 2 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Earning their highest ranking to date is R&B trio V.O.S. Their "Beautiful Life" moves up three more spots to No. 2. Last year, their big hit "Everyday Everyday" reached No. 3, and this song has already surpassed it in terms of ranking. V.O.S member Park Ji Hun already had a solo No. 1 hit earlier this year with "During The Days I Want To See You". Let’s see if the group can score another No. 1. To do so, they must hold off strong competition both above and below them.

3. (+3) Wonder Girls – So Hot
Score: 846
Genre: Pop / Dance

SoHotMusic + Lyrics: Park Jin Young
Album: Wonder Girl mini-album "So Hot" track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Undoubtedly, this song has the best potential to be our next No. 1 song. Already winning the Inky Gayo mutizen award and 2nd on M!Countdown this week, for sure it will continue to move up. And when the album sales’ score of this song kicks in next week, it will be the one to beat!

Score: 843
Genre: Hip-hop
Music: Kim Gun Woo, MC Mong / Lyrics: MC Mong
Album: MC Mong Vol. 4 Track 2 Purchase this album

Comment: This is the title track of MC Mong’s 4th album, “Show’s Just Begun.” Featured artistes Lim Yu-kyung and $howgun’s unique musical style ring out in this upbeat hip hop track. The lyrics, which were written by MC Mong himself, describe him as the circus clown. The artiste’s close friend No Hong-chul added more fun to the music video with his appearance. 5. (-4) SG Wannabe – 라라라 (LaLaLa)
Score: 842

Comment: As the title track of SG Wannabe’s 5th album, "My Friend," this country-style number conveys the love and thanks to one’s lover. It’s the group’s first music video with new member Lee Seok-hun and follows SG Wannabe in their life as a group and also shows them singing freestyle. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops in Seoul)

6. (+2) Shinee – 누난 너무 예뻐 (Noona’s Pretty (Replay))

Score: 755
Genre: R&B/Dance

ShineeMusic: Jason Pennock, Tchaka Diallo, Jack Kugell / Lyrics: Kim Young Hu Album: Shinee 1st mini-album Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: SM Entertainment’s latest sensation Shinee continue to move forward on the chart, their song "Noona’s Pretty (Replay)" is up 2 more spots to No. 6 this week. Shinee are made up of five teenagers from the ages of 14 to 18. The members are Jonghyun, Minho, Taemin, Onyoo, and Key. Unlike DBSG and Super Junior, Shinee’s music is more contemporary. Their debut song is mid-tempo R&B style that can showcase both their dance skills and their vocals. Already with a strong fan base, Shinee are definitely one of the new artistes in 2008 that we should all watch out for.

7. (-3) Jewelry – 모두 다 쉿! (Everybody Shhh!)
Score: 644
Genre: Pop / Dance

Jewelry5Music: Chae Gyu, Shin Sha Dong Ho Raeng/ Lyrics: Choi Kap Won

Comment: Featured in Jewelry’s 5th album, “Kitchi Island,” this dance track delivers sensual lyrics over an uplifting house beat. The catchy refrain, reminiscent of a cheer, is powerful, yet memorable. Crown J and Popin Hyun-jun made special appearances in the music video in which the Jewelry members transformed into cheerleaders. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops in Seoul)

8. (+3) Gavy NJ – Lie
Score: 632
Genre: R&B Ballad

GavyNJ3Music + Lyrics: Min Myung Ki / Kim Do Hoon
Album: Gavy NJ Vol. 3 Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Of all the female R&B groups that have debuted for the last few years, Gavy NJ seem to be the best-kept secret in the business. That may be due to the fact that they rarely came out to perform during their first two albums. Despite not performing much, their songs were still very popular. Until the emergence of See Ya, Gavy NJ were labeled as the female version of SG Wannabe. Now that See Ya have shifted to a more pop-oriented approach, Gavy NJ can re-claim that title. With a new record company, a more polished image, and frequent appearances on gayo shows, their music still remains unchanged. Lie is a great R&B ballad. Now that they are performing frequently, it will definitely help this song and perhaps it will become their biggest hit so far. Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu starred in this song’s MV.

9. (-2) Kim Jong Wook – 그대만이 (My Only)
Score: 585
Genre: Pop Ballad

KimJongWook1Music: Cho Young Soo / Lyrics: Ahn Young Min
Album: Kim Jong Wook Vol. 1 CD 2 Track 3 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: This is a track from Kim Jong-wook’s 1st album, "For A Long Time," a ballad that showcases a nice blend of warm accessible melodies and Kim’s mellow vocals. The lyrics, simple and straightforward, are about a guy’s strong feelings towards his loved one. Chae Dong-ha and Jo Yeo-jung show off their melodramatic acting as a couple in the music video. 10. (+20) Color Pink – Blue Moon
Score: 417
Genre: Pop / Dance

ColorPink
Album: Color Pink digital single "Blue Moon"
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Not surprising to see this song moving up so fast. Color Pink is an all-star project group formed by members of MNet Media’s top 3 female groups: See Ya, Davichi, and Black Pearl. This 6-member group includes See Ya’s Kim Yeon Ji and Lee Bo Ram, Davichi’s Kang Min Kyung and Lee Hye Ri, and Black Pearl’s Nami and Hwi Eun. All three groups are R&B ballad groups, but they come together this time for a pop dance hit that fits well for the summer.

11. (-8) Epik High (feat. Ji Sun) – One
Score: 405
Genre: Hip-hop
Music: Tablo / Lyrics: Tablo, Mithra Jin
Album: Epik High Vol. 5 Track 4 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: This is the representative track of Epik High’s 5th album, “Pieces, Part One.” The fusion of futuristic electronic sounds with hip-hop rhythms blends in well with former Loveholic’s vocalist Jisun’s voice. The song carries a message of hope to those who have been emotionally damaged. Jung Ryeo-won stars in the music video as a woman who has given up on her life. Score: 385
Genre:
Pop Ballad

Music + Lyircs: Yoon Sang

Comment: Coming from Lee Seung Ki’s 2nd remake album, this song is the follow-up song to "I’ll Give You All". "I"ll Give You All" was from Cho Kyu Man, this song was also originally from another singer-songwriter, Yoon Sang. It is a more rock-styled ballad as compared to "I’ll Give You All".

13. (+13) Crown J (feat. Seo In Young) – Too Much
Score: 365
Genre: Hip-hop

TooMuchMusic: Crown J, JK Beat / Lyrics: Crown J
Album: Crown J digital single "Too Much"
Watch: MV Performance (cut from "We Got Married)
Comment: Yet another song from the popular TV show "We Got Married". This time it is from the couple Crown J and Seo In Young, one rapping and the other singing in this hip-hop ballad. Both of them are already established artistes in k-pop. The song is of the hip-hop and electronica genres and Seo’s medium-tempo parts are easy to sing along to. With the show’s popularity, this song is ranked among the top songs on most internet charts in Korea.

Comment: Follow-up hit from Nell’s 4th album"Separation Anexity". It is our highest debut this week at No. 14. Title song "Time Of Collecting My Memories" already went to No. 1. This song is similar in nature. It is a rock ballad with a nice piano intro. The song even has 2 MV versions. Click the links above to check both out.

Score: 340
Genre: Hip-hop / R&B

KimJinPyo5
Album: Kim Jin Pyo Vol. 5 Track 7 Purchase this album
Watch: MV
Comment: It’s been 5 years since Kim Jin Pyo released his last full studio album. During this time, he released several digital singles and also re-united with Lee Juck to release Panic’s 4th album. In this song, he collaborates with Bobby Kim, who fits JP’s slow but fluent rapping so well with his laidback vocals. This song is a vintage Kim Jin Pyo song.

16. (+1) Alex – 화분 (Flower Pot)
Score: 337
Genre: Pop/Jazz Ballad

Alex1Music + Lyrics: Kang Hyun Min
Album: Alex Vol. 1 Track 15 Purchase this album
Watch: MV
Comment: The fourth song coming from the hit TV show "We Got Married". Like Andy, Clazziquai’s Alex also stars in this show, coupling with Shin Ae. Alex was also involved in the first hit song of this series, featuring in Kim Dong Ryul’s "Like A Child". It is already the third version of this song. The song first appeared in the "Coffee Prince No. 1 Shop" soundtrack, then Loveholic remade it earlier this year. Now it has finally become a hit on its third try, proving that the power of TV shows can do a song wonders. Loveholic’s Kang Hyun Min wrote this song. This song is also featured in Alex’s 1st solo album.

Comment: Featured in SS501’s single album, "Deja Vu," this dance track combines upbeat house rhythm with interesting melodies. The music video features each member playing a different role, such as a womanizer, a bodyguard, etc. They all make attempts to woo the same girl, only to be rejected one by one. Genre: Hip-hop

BugaKingz3
Album: Buga Kingz Vol. 3 Track 7 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: This is the representative track of Buga Kingz’s 3rd album, "The Menu." The lively hip-hop track kicks off with a siren sound, giving the song a unique touch. Member GanD’s girlfriend’s participation in the song as a narrator created a buzz. The lyrics take the form of a telephone conversation between a couple squabbling over trifles. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops in Seoul)

19. (+9) One Two (feat. Seo In Young) – 뭇된 여자 (Bad Woman)
Score: 270
Genre: Hip-hop

OneTwo
Album: One Two digital single "Bad Woman"
Comment: Seo In Young is a busy woman, not a bad woman. This week, she has 3 songs in the top 20, including Jewlery’s "Everybody Shhh!". She is also featured in Crown J’s "Too Much" and this song. This is a very mainstream hip-hop mid-tempo ballad. You may not recognize Seo In Young’s voice in this song as her singing style is very different from her other songs.

20. (-6) Kim Jang Hoon – 소나기 (Shower)
Score: 255
Genre: Pop Ballad

ShowerMusic + Lyrics: Psy

Comment: This poignant ballad is the title track of Kim Jang-hoon’s Maestro Project single album of the same name. The lyrics, which were written by Psy, reveal the hope for a better future by comparing life’s obstacles to a rain shower. Comment: What a fitting song title as a tribute to the late Kim Min Soo! This is my favorite song in Monday Kiz’s 3rd album, "Inside Story". The ballad sings about missing an ex and asking her to return to his side. The music video features visual tributes of late Monday Kiz member Kim Min Soo, who tragically passed away two months ago in a motorcycle accident. May he rest in peace.
