1. (–) SNSD – Gee *** 4 WEEKS NO. 1 ***
Score: 823
Genre: Pop / Dance

GeeMusic + Lyrics: E-Tribe

Album:
SNSD mini-album Vol. 1 Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Repeating yet again as No. 1 song for the 4th straight week is SNSD’s "Gee".  Despite its score continuing to drop, the competition still hasn’t caught up with this song yet.  Let’s see if they can remain No. 1 again next week.  SNSD is also our featured artiste this week.  Check out the very detailed article on these girls.

2. (+2) Bobby Kim – 사랑..그 놈 (Love…This Person)
Score: 783
Genre: R&B Ballad

BobbyKimSpecialMusic + Lyrics: Park Sun Zoo
Album: Bobby Kim Special Album "Love Chapter 1" Track 3 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Moving up to No. 2 with his biggest hit to date is underrated R&B singer Bobby Kim.  The title track of his special album "Love…This Person" is now the closest contender to overtake SNSD as No. 1 song.  Throughout the years, Bobby Kim is known for his soulful voice which adds to the pureness of his R&B ballads.  He has also done a lot of drama OST songs.  His albums are always selling well and stay on the chart for a long time.  Looks like this song will also stay in the top 20 for many weeks to come, and perhaps become his first No. 1 song as well.

3. (-1) Seung Ri (Big Bang) – Strong Baby
Score: 732
Genre: R&B / Dance

BigBang2Music + Lyrics: G-Dragon, Bae Jin Ryul
Album: Big Bang Vol. 2 Track 5 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Featured in Big Bang’s 2nd album, "Remember", this track shows off a solo transformation by the group’s youngest, Seung-ri. It’s a modern, pop-style dance track with an intense rhythm and melody. Seung-ri casts off his cute-boy image and presents a sexier, manlier side in the music video. 4. (+1) SS501 – 내 머리가 나빠서 (Because My Head Is Bad)
Score: 698
Genre: Pop

BoysOverFlowerMusic: Oh Joon Sung / Lyrics: Oh Jung Sung, Eun Jong Tae

Album:
KBS Drama "Boys Over Flowers" OST Track 2 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: From the OST of the highly popular KBS Drama "Boys Over Flowers", SS501’s "Because My Head Is Bad" moves up another spot to No. 4 this week.  Originally the theme song for Yoon Ji Hoo (SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong), this song quickly became popular as the ending song for the drama. This is the second song performed by Heo Young Sang, Kim Kyu Jong and Kim Hyun Joon from SS501 after "U R Man". (credits to ~S2~)

5. (-2) Lyn – 사랑…다 거짓말 (Love…It’s All Lies)
Score: 691
Genre: R&B Ballad

Lyn5Music + Lyrics: Lee Jae Myung
Album: Lyn Vol. 5 Track 3 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: This is the title track of Lyn’s 5th album entitled “Let Go, Let In, It’s A New Day”. It is a sad and sentimental ballad. The lyrics, which the singer wrote personally, are about the pain of being unable to forget one’s lover after a breakup. The music video shows the enchanting side of Lyn, who acts out as its main character. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops In Seoul)

6. (+26) Hwa Yobi – 반쪽 (Half) *** BIGGEST MOVER OF THE WEEK ***
Score: 549
Genre: mid-tempo R&B

ThisIsLoveMusic: Jun Hae Sung / Lyrics: Hwa Yobi
Album: Hwa Yobi mini-album "This Is Love" Track 3 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Last year, Hwa Yobi boosted her popularity by appearing on the TV Show "We Got Married".  She now returns as a singer and has released a new mini-album.  The title track "Half" is our biggest mover this week.  This song represents a change of style as its melody is more up-tempo than other Hwa Yobi hits from the past.  "Half" is about a woman whose life gets complicated after she falls in love with a man who is already taken. It was composed by Jun Hae Sung, who also wrote Yoon Do Hyun’s "I Must Have Loved" and Lee Seung Chul’s "Long Day", while Hwa Yobi personally penned the lyrics. There is also an acoustic version of the song which shows another side to it.

Score: 519
Genre: R&B Ballad

KimKyungRok1Music + Lyrics: Cho Young Soo

The title song features Ha Joo-yeon of the group Jewelry under the name Baby-J. It is a sentimental ballad about missing one’s lover after a breakup. 8. (–) T-Max – 파라다이스 (Paradise)
Score: 516
Genre: Pop

BoysOverFlowerMusic: Oh Joon Sung / Lyrics: Oh Jung Sung, Eun Jong Tae

Album:
KBS Drama "Boys Over Flowers" OST Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: The title song from the drama "Boys Over Flowers" stay put at No. 8 this week.  Kim Joon, a member of F4 in the drama, is also a member of T-Max, which helps to bring more attention to this underrated band.  A third song from this drama, Ashily’s "Lucky", also debuts at No. 35 this week, making it the first time 3 songs from the same drama OST appear on our chart at the same time.

9. (–) Jewelry S – 데이트 (Date)
Score: 488
Genre: Pop / Dance

JewelrySMusic: Lee Min Soo / Lyrics: Gorilla
Album: Jewelry S mini-album "Sweet Song" Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: In 2008, two new members, Kim Eun Jung and Ha Joo Yun, joined Jewelry and had much success with their fifth album, One More Time. This year, the two new members have now made a sub group, Jewelry S, to show a sweet and cute side of them. The title track "Date" remains at No. 9 this week.   "Date" was composed by the hitmakers who have also produced Everyone Sh! and L.O.V.E. It is a cute song about the nervousness girls feel when talking about their crushes and the confession that goes along with it. The other two Jewelry members have also helped out: Park Jung Ah took part in the music video while Seo In Young helped with the dance choreography.

10. (+10) KCM – 멀리 있기 (To Be Far Away)
Score: 484
Genre: R&B Ballad

KCMmini
Album: KCM mini-album "Espresso" Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: KCM is back with a mini-album "Espresso" and the title song "To Be Far Away" becomes his latest top-10 hit this week.  "To Be Far Away" features acoustic instrumentation and a 50-person orchestra which perfectly complement the song’s melancholic lyrics. The storyline is about a lover enduring the pain after a breakup and wishing happiness for the ex. Korea’s top songwriter Cho Young Soo, who has written most of KCM’s hit songs in the past, is again in charge of this song.

11. (+14) Wax (feat. Tae Hye Young) – 전화 한 번 못하니 (Not Even A Call)
Score: 460
Genre: Pop Ballad

NotEvenACallMusic + Lyrics: Min Myung Ki
Album:
Wax digital single "Not Even A Call" Track 1
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: After releasing her 7th album with the title track, Woman Eats Love, Wax has returned with a single, Not Even a Call. This digital single was composed by Min Myung Ki, who also wrote hit songs such as Gavy NJ’s Remember and SG Wannabe’s Lalala. Unlike typical ballads, this song samples Bach’s Music Note for Anna Magdalene and incorporates Miss $ member Tae Hye Young’s rap. Famous director, Yang Jin Ho who also directed Lee Juck’s It’s a Relief video, is in charge of the music video.  This is an excellent song which we highly recommend.

Score: 407
Genre: R&B Ballad

DontLeaveMusic + Lyrics: Yoon Myung Sun
Album: T digital single "Don’t Leave" Track 1
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: After giving birth to her baby with Drunken Tiger, T (Tasha) is coming back with an R&B ballad "Don’t Leave", which should attract mainstream listeners. Yoon Myung Sun, who is known for composing Eru’s Black Glasses, composed this song and Bang Shi Hyuk, who has composed Baek Ji Young’s "Like Being Hit By a Bullet", took charge of arranging it. This song is about remembering the hurtful memories about love.

Score: 342
Genre: Pop Ballad

AStorySadderThanSadness
Album: Movie "A Story Sadder Than Sadness" OST Track 4 Purchase this album
Watch: MV
Comment: Already the second top-20 song from this highly anticipated movie starring Kwon Sang Woo, Lee Bum Soo, and Lee Bo Young,  Kim Bum Soo’s title track of the same name as the movie title made it to the top 10 earlier this year.  We haven’t seen a movie OST producing two top-20 songs in a long time.  Lee Seung Chul has been busy particpating in OSTs recently.  He just had a hit "Are You Listening" from the drama "East Of Eden" OST Vol. 2 and now another one of his trademark ballads with his sincere vocal becomes a hit.

Comment: This is the title track of K-Will’s same-titled single album. It is a cheerful medium-tempo hip-hop song, whose lyrics were written by MC Mong. K-Will’s soft and touching vocals harmonize with the string melody, while MC Mong’s rap adds to the song’s outstanding quality. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops In Seoul)

Comment: Already enjoying fame even before she officially debuted, 17 year-old May Doni made her first appearance last year when she was featured on PDIS’ project album.  Her strong vocal made a quick impression on fans.  Now she is finally debuting as a solo singer.  Yoon Il Sang (IS of PDIS) is in charge of her single album.  The title song "Mola ing" is a mid-tempo R&B tune can go either way – faster to become a dance track (the IS mixed version on the album) or slower to become a ballad track, which is the version on our chart.

Score: 304

20. (+7) Ji Sun – 안녕 마음아 (Hello Heart)
Score: 301
Genre: Modern Rock

JiSun1Music + Lyrics: Ji Sun
Album: Ji Sun Vol. 1 Track 3 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Formerly the lead vocalist of Loveholic, Ji Sun left the group last year to pursue a solo career.  She first appeared on Epik High’s "One".  Now she has finally released her first solo album.  The title song "Hello Heart", which is composed by herself, made it to the top 20 this week.  Ji Sun has a refreshing dreamy voice which is very unique in k-pop.  Both this song and her album are doing quite well so far, which is a good start to her solo career.

YESTERDAY ONCE MORE:
"Yesterday Once More" was a classic hit song by The Carpenters.  In this new segment, our staff writer ~S2~ will take you back in time to re-visit an old-school k-pop hit song each week.  While not all the songs were considered classic hits, it will surely bring back memories for those who have listened to k-pop songs for many years, and also to introduce these songs to newer fans.  Here is this week’s song:

M.I.L.K – Crystal
Genre: Pop / Dance

Album: M.I.L.K Vol. 1 Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: To start off this new segment, we introduce the four-member girl group M.I.L.K (Made In Lovely Kin) under BM entertainment (sister to SM entertainment). H.O.T member Moon Hee Jun produced this group. Crystal was their main track in their first album ‘With Freshness’ in 2001 and it’s a rather cute song with cute choreography, but a different type of cuteness from today’s Kara and Girl’s Generation. This song was a hit at the time but did not get enough attention. However, it gained more popularity even after the band disbanded. (credits to ~S2~)
