Comment: Kara finally score their first ever No. 1 song with "Honey". After coming so close on their previous song "Pretty Girl", the 5-member female group now have a No. 1 song to their credit, further cementing themselves as one of the top girl groups in Korea. This song is No. 1 on M!Countdown, and won Mutizen award on SBS Inky Gayo. The song’s score is well ahead of the competition, so look for a repeat next week.

This song is composed by Vibe’s Ryu Jae Hyun, who also wrote their hits “Love Sick” and “Until You Come”. One can hear lead singer Lee Hong Ki’s emotions through this rock ballad.

The duo work with top songwriter and producer Cho Young Soo for the first time on their title song "Corner", which moves up 7 spots to No. 4 this week. Comment: Last summer, Shin Hye Sung released Side 1 of his third solo album. This year, Shin has released Side 2 of the album which consists of the heart-wrenching ballads he is known for. There are a total of ten tracks with lyrics and melodies similar to that of a sad movie. The title track "Why Did You Call" was composed by Ha Jung Ho and had another big move this week into the top 5. The song is about being unable to forget one’s love after a breakup.

Comment: Korea’s top R&B artiste Wheesung has remade world star Craig David’s hit track, Insomnia. The song was originally released last October as a digital single, and Craig David personally asked Wheesung to sing the Asian version. Insomnia is a dance pop track which incorporates the famous bassline trend, which is quite popular in Europe. This is the first time since "Incurable Disease" that Wheesung is performing this style of music. The song was produced by Jim Beanz and Timbaland. The Korean version of the song was re-arranged by Kim Min Soo and penned by Wheesung himself.

Comment: Last year, Hwa Yobi boosted her popularity by appearing on the TV Show "We Got Married". She now returns as a singer and has released a new mini-album. The title track "Half" becomes her latest top-10 hit. This song represents a change of style as its melody is more up-tempo than other Hwa Yobi hits from the past. "Half" is about a woman whose life gets complicated after she falls in love with a man who is already taken. It was composed by Jun Hae Sung, who also wrote Yoon Do Hyun’s "I Must Have Loved" and Lee Seung Chul’s "Long Day", while Hwa Yobi personally penned the lyrics.

Comment: After releasing her 7th album with the title track Woman Eats Love, Wax has returned with a single, Not Even a Call. This digital single was composed by Min Myung Ki, who also wrote hit songs such as Gavy NJ’s Remember and SG Wannabe’s Lalala. Unlike typical ballads, this song samples Bach’s Music Note for Anna Magdalene and incorporates Miss $ member Tae Hye Young’s rap. Famous director Yang Jin Ho, who also directed Lee Juck’s It’s a Relief video, is in charge of the music video. This is an excellent song which we highly recommend.

Comment: In 2008, two new members, Kim Eun Jung and Ha Joo Yun, joined Jewelry and had much success with their fifth album, One More Time. This year, the two new members have now made a sub group, Jewelry S, to show a sweet and cute side of them. The title track "Date" was composed by the hitmakers who have also produced Everyone Sh! and L.O.V.E. It is a cute song about the nervousness girls feel when talking about their crushes and the confession that goes along with it. The other two Jewelry members have also helped out: Park Jung Ah took part in the music video while Seo In Young helped with the dance choreography.

Comment: Canaan, who was the main rapper for Lee Seung Chul’s band and who also did activities for his hip-hop band, has released his third digital single, She Married. This song is about meeting a past lover, whom you loved so much, on the road. She is however already married and you can’t do anything about it. This song has a sad melody to accompany the sad storyline. The song was composed by Oh Sae Wook, who is also responsible for Namolla Family’s "Love Is That Easy". Tae In, who appeared on many Namolla Family songs, is the featured vocalist on this song.

Comment: K.I.S.S was a female trio with members Jini, Mini and Um Ji. The debuted in 2001 with the album "Kiss First Album" and the song "Because I am a Girl" spread widely through the internet, especially the music video. The song quickly topped the charts and has also been remade in many other languages. The music video is still famous today and is considered one of the classic k-pop MVs. It tells a story of what one can sacrifice for love. However, Kiss was a one-hit wonder. In April 2002, the group disbanded and although members Um Ji and Mini are not in the entertainment industry anymore, Jini, (who is a Soompi member) hopes to debut in the US. (credits to ~S2~)
