Synopsis

Jin-hyuk
was brought up as the well-bred heir to a corporate fortune. He has got
the looks, the money and the charm, but even so, true love is hard to
find. Jin-hyuk opens up a cake shop and hires Sun-woo, a talented
patissier who had a crush on Jin-hyuk back in high school. Together
with Gi-beom, an ex-boxing champion and Su-young, a clueless bodyguard,
four unique and handsome men stir up a quiet neighborhood when they
show up at the cake shop, Antique.

“Delicious, sweet but not too sweet, it hits the spot!”

It seems that perhaps these days Korean writers are either tired or out of ideas because the biggest hits on the screen both TV and movie seem to be Korean remakes of successful Japanese mangas.  Fortunately for the Koreans it seems more often than not that the Korean remakes are an improvement (if however slightly) than their Japanese counterparts.  Of course that’s IF we are even comparing them. 

While some Korean remakes take liberties with the Japanese original, this movie has faithly recreated the characters, storyline, and even some of the dialog to create a very fun and entertaining movie.  The acting by all of the characters is spot on perfect without seeming too cheesy or over dramatic.  I found the camera work particularily good not just zooming over for closeups on the scrumptious looking cake but also in recreating the dramatic childhood for Jin-hyuk.  For those that haven’t read the Japanese manga or seen the anime “Antique Bakery”, and even for those that have, you will surely enjoy a slice of this movie!  It’s certainly not a heavy meal but it definitely will end your day just right.  Hmmm now i feel like some coffee with my cake.
