JYP Speaks Out

We all knew at some stage or another JYP was going to come out and talk about the Jaebum incident. However, no one knew when this happen and I’m betting also no one knew how heartfelt JYP’s statement was going to be.

JYP certainly doesn’t hold back as his first part of his statement is about Jay’s first years in Korea. JYP tells us of how when Jay first came to Korea he was a “rebellious” boy and this is also why JYP wasn’t surprised that the words written in 2005 were Jay’s.

When Jaebum first came to Korea 4 years ago, he was very rebellious and out of line. He laughed at Korea and belittled his fellow trainees, even going so far as to see me as ‘easy.’ I believe he thought that being a Korean celebrity was something to laugh at. He was a boy that wanted to b-boy in the streets. He fought with company employees, his dance instructors, and made threatening statements.

While at first this really doesn’t portray Jay in the best light, what JYP says shortly after makes Jay one of the best kids in the world. Jay’s motivation was his family and JYP goes to the extent to say that he “loves his family more than I could ever know”. He also explains in this part why Jay talks about money in his interviews; it wasn’t so he could go spend his money on random bits of clothes and other materialistic items, it was so he could send the money home to his family to help them.

At this point in time Jay was still that same rebellious boy from his youth, but this was all to change. But it was also going to be one of the most heartbreaking parts of Jay’s career. Fan’s gave him the strength to release his engry on stage in both singing in dancing. But as JYP describes “But as things began to go up, like a sad movie scene, his entry from 4 years ago was released.”

He was extremely sorry to everyone, to the point that he thought that the more he stayed in Korea the more he would hurt the rest of the boys from 2PM.  The sad thing is because of this debacle he told JYP he lost the the “confidence to get up on stage.

In his last email to JYP he said

“I’VE BEEN A LITTLE PUNK IN THE PAST. I JUST WANT TO LET YO UKNOW THAT IT WAS A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE. IT MADE ME A MUCH BETTER MUCH STRONGER PERSON AND I’M THANKFUL FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR ME. REAL TALK.”

But perhaps the most important part of the entire statement is at the end where JYP talks about Jay’s character. What we fans saw on stage was the real Jay, he couldn’t hold back his emotions and hence they were on show all the time. Jay was defiantly not fake at all which makes his departure from KPOP and korea even more sad. Maybe one day he will return and I know plenty of people would like to see that happen but for the time being all we can do is reflect like JYP has done in his statement.

You can read the entire statement in the 2PM official thread.
