BIOGRAPHY
What a perfect week to be featured as Artist of the Week because it is leader Je A and maknae Ga In’s birthday. Having debuting in 2006 with “Far Away”, they probably did not get their big break until 2008 with their hit song “L.O.V.E.” However, they returned this late summer with their third album “Sound G.” Their company Nega Network teased netizens with five music video previews before the official album release on July 20th, four of the songs being remixes to their previous hit songs and one of them was new song “Candy Man.” The music video previews were well received by many. Thankfully the remixes to their previous hits were included in a second CD making many fans pleased. Their title hit song “Abracadabra” has blown away not just their fans but music listeners who never gave them much thought until now. With an addicting “Arrogance Dance” included in a mixed viewed video, “Abracadabra” has topped many online music charts for weeks and has won about five awards on popular music programs. Even rapper Miryo was voted as the best female idol group rapper which is a great honor considering she was up against 2ne1’s CL, Wondergirls’ Yoobin and Kara’s Nicole.

With such a huge change in their music and concept, many people are wondering if they are still the Brown Eyed Girls everyone thought they knew. For one, “Abracadabra” is full of auto tone which makes it hard to hear the four sing like usual. Furthermore, the music video to “Abracadabra” has more provocative scenes even making the video banned. Though the music video and the song “Abracadabra” is becoming a huge hit, we cannot forget about the rest of their third album. The rest of the songs off their third album are surprisingly ballad sounding. The ballad songs shows everyone that Brown Eyed Girls is still Brown Eyed Girls. They still produce lovely sounding music that showcases their uniquely amazing vocals. Even rapper Miryo had a small singing part in leader Je A’s own written song.

Although there is a huge dispute over the grand change the Brown Eyed Girls has made, there are many things to consider. Brown Eyed Girls surely has changed. It has been a difficult “war of the girl groups” this summer but Brown Eyed Girls has shown everyone who is willing to see how different they are from other female groups. For one, kids wear sneakers while women like Brown Eyed Girls wear heels. Okay, that line from a fellow Brown Eyed Girls fan just had to be thrown in but the list can go on and on of how different Brown Eyed Girls is. Sure, every group has their differences but there is something about this group that makes them stand out more, that makes them radiant and shine. Something they like to throw out themselves is their age. Although it’s humorous when they talk about it, their age is something to look at. It may just be one’s thinking but sometimes their age does make a huge difference. They can be left out on certain things that other female groups do or they may just  be taken lightly compared to the younger groups but the Brown Eyed Girls is of all things not to be taken lightly as they are not just surprising singers but they possess surprising personalities. Ga In has even been casted in movie “My Love By My Side.”

The odd thing is that Brown Eyed Girls’ previous hits were included in their third album as remixes. Some may think it’s nothing big or have never thought about it before but it may be something more than we think. Brown Eyed Girls is changing so much it makes us feel unsure about the “quality” of their music but because Brown Eyed Girls is changing a bit to follow the “trend” of mainstream music, they are reassuring listeners that although their music style has advanced onto another level, they do not want us to forget their past hits, their present music and future songs to come.

Everyone has to agree that with their comeback this summer, they have revived many old fans and received many more new fans. The funny thing is, some people even thought Brown Eyed Girls were rookies. Whether you view that as a good thing or not, Brown Eyed Girls is receiving more love and support than they have over the years since their debut. Brown Eyed Girls finally has an international subbing crew which they never had before,  they have gained many Everlastings (their fan name) that will actually not stop following them (hopefully) and their international forum is, though slowly, up and running again. Though it may seem like small accomplishments, they are accomplishments nonetheless. Surely Brown Eyed Girls are proud to have such dedicated fans and we are all proud to be Everlastings. Though they are basically considered a popular group now, there’s still a feeling of being underrated that flows through them. Maybe that is one thing that makes them different. No matter what they do  that is probably what makes them the Brown Eyed Girls they really truly are.

With their rising popularity, they have been invited to attend the New York Chuseok Festival, Narsha and Miryo has participated in the OST of “My Fair Lady” and even more surprising, the company has made about $8.1 million through “Abracadabra” promotions. That amount does not include performances. These four women has got it all and there is more to come~
