As expected, 2PM wasted no time to move up to the top spot this week
with “Heartbeat”. In this era of artists releasing singles and
mini-albums, this is their very first full studio
album titled “1:59.”  The
title track is “Heartbeat” which does not have an exact genre but shows
2PM’s style. One can hear the sounds of a person’s heart palpitation
along with drums and a full orchestra, which all flow together to make
a dynamic feel. This song is likely to stay at the top for the rest of
this year.

YESTERDAY ONCE MORE:
J – 어제처럼 (Like Yesterday)
Genre: R&B Ballad

Album: J Vol. 3 (2000) Track 4
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment:
This is a classic R&B ballad by singer J, from her 3rd album in
2000. At that time, the R&B genre is still relatively new in k-pop,
and is heavily influenced by American R&B. This song is unique that
its chorus part has a lot of English lyrics, making it especially
popular to Korean Americans. SNSD’s Tiffany and Jessica both sung this
song on radio program and on variety show before. Last year, singer Joo
remade this song and also became a hit again. This is J’s biggest hit,
reaching No. 1 on music charts in 2000. Today, J is still active and
participates in a lot of project singles.
