Despite dropping in points, 2PM remains No. 1 for the third straight
week with “Heartbeat”, ending the year as our final No. 1 song of 2009.
In this era of artists releasing singles and mini-albums, as popular as
2PM this is their very first full studio album titled “1:59”, where
listeners can see how much they matured. The title track is “Heartbeat”
which does not have an exact genre but shows 2PM’s style. One can hear
the sounds of a person’s heart palpitation along with drums and a full
orchestra, which all flow together to make a dynamic feel. 2PM is being
nominated for many categories in our 2009 Soompi Gayo Awards, let see
if they will bring home some awards.

U-Kiss ended the year in a very promising note, moving up 3 more spots
to No. 2. with their latest hit “Am I That Easy Going?”. The group
recently released their third mini-album CONTI UKISS which did well on
the sales chart. The group added a new member Lee Ki Sub, making U-Kiss
a seven-member group. “Am I That Easy Going?” is a powerful hip-hop
dance tune written by Brave Brothers who is also responsible for the
group’s previous singles. Since we are on hiatus next week, U-Kiss will
have to wait two weeks to see if they will score their first ever No. 1
song.

IU also moves up another spot scoring her first top 3 hit with the ever
so cute song “Marshmallow”. “Marshmallow” is a hybrid of the 60’s rock
and roll and french pop which is currently popular worldwide. It’s the
perfect combination of retro and modern which displays IU’s cute and
mature sides. Songwriter Kim Do Hoon, who has written many hit songs
recently, wrote this song for IU. IU is being nominated for the top
female vocalist and is also one of the singers on our voting poll for
the top 10 singers award.

Just when we thought other female rookie groups are a lock for this
year’s best new artists, F(x) who debuted the latest, is closing in
faster than lightning. Their latest hit ‘Chu~♡’ is at No. 4 this week.
‘Chu~♡’ is a cute and trendy Euro-pop song. The song is about a girl
whom awakens after receiving a kiss, and is filled with curiosity and
expectations of wanting to get to know the world.

The song has a unique sound with a sweet but sharp melody line and a
sophisticated and tight up-tempo beat. The use of punctuation in the
lyrics such as “dot,” highlight the feelings of a girl on the verge of

Looking to solidify their place as one of the leading candidates for
the best newcomer award at year end, After School has done just that
with their latest hit “Because Of You”. It moves up 5 spots to No. 6
this week, surpassing their debut song “Diva” which went to No. 6.
Unlike their previous hits, this song is slower in tempo and has a
Shibuya kei style with electronic pop sounds. It is a new try for both
the group and hot songwriter Brave Brothers. Through this song,
listeners can see their top notch live performance. This song already
topped many internet charts in Korea.

Moving up neck to neck with After School is T-Ara’s latest hit “Bo Beep
Bo Beep”. It is the group’s 3rd top 10 hit after “Lie” and “TTL”,
coming from their first full length album which many top composers
wrote for them. “Bo Beep Bo Beep” is a hot dance track with additive
melody.

This year, MC Sniper successful introduced Outsider to the mainstream
k-pop audience. Now MC Sniper himself is back with his 5th album
“Museum”. This album revolves around the concept of love. He produced
and wrote the lyrics based on this own experiences on love. MC Sniper
also has solid collaborations featuring including Rain’s producer, Tae
Wan along with Lucifer, MC BK, and Mr. Room9. The title track “Magic
Castle” has the trademark Sniper sound and it becomes his latest top 10
hit, moving up 6 spots to No. 8 this week.

K Will is quietly enjoying a spectacular year in 2009, generating hits
after hits, whether it is from his own albums/singles or from drama
OSTs. Now he is releasing his 2nd full length studio album “Yearn Yearn
Yearn”. Despite having so many hit songs, this is K Will’s first full
album in more than 2 years. The principal track with the same name is
at No. 9 this week. “Yearn Yearn Yearn” is a powerful and emotional
ballad which fits perfectly to K Will’s vocal. With the addition of his
latest hit, K Will is among the favorite to win the top male vocalist
this year.

This is the title track of SS501’s mini-album “Rebirth.” It is an

2NE1 members are well represented in the top 20 this week. The group’s
two main rappers CL & Minzy, also have their own hit song as
“Please Don’t Go” is our highest debut at No. 16 this week. The song
was composed by YG’s main producer Teddy. It has fast hip hop rhythms
along with CL and Minji’s strong flowing rap. This hot song is perfect
for the winter. Another 2NE1 member, Park Bom, is just one spot below
with “You And I”.

This is the title track of Park Bom’s 1st single album and her debut
song as a solo artist. It is an R&B hip-hop song that was written
by music producer Teddy. It is about promising everlasting love to a
person who has always been there to protect and help. Park Bom’s

The master himself is on the top 20! Having produced some of the most
successful k-pop artists this decade (2PM, Wonder Girls, 2AM, Rain,
G.O.D, etc.), Park Jin Young (JYP) is taking his turn as a singer and
returns to the top 20 this week with the title song “No Love No More”
from his latest mini-album “Sad Freedom”. Many of the younger fans may
not recall JYP as a singer and dancer, but he has many hit songs in the
past. He showcases his singing and dancing steps on this funky song.
After watching his performances, fans will understand why he has so
many bright pupils.

Yet another high-profiled girl group debuted! This one is from DSP
Entertainment, who launched FINKL and Kara. Rainbow is their latest
secret weapon. The 7-girls group has been training for four years.
Rainbow members are leader Jae Kyung, Ji Suk, Seung A, No Eul, Woo Ri,
Yoon Hye, and Hyun Young – one member each representing a color of the
rainbow. Their debut song “Gossip Girl” moves up 2 spots to No. 15 this
week. It is a fresh and stylish synth-pop dance tune.

Korea’s ballad queen, Baek Ji Young takes part in the soundtrack for
the blockbuster KBS hit drama, Iris. The song will be the romance theme
song for Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee. The story is action packed with
lots of betrayal and romance. The song which was composed by top
composer Kim Do Hoon and penned by Choi Kap Won, depicts the two
people’s sad romance. “Don’t Forget” dropped 1 spot to No. 16 this
week. The “Iris” drama OST placed 3 songs on our top 20 this week.

Kim Tae Woo who has a big hit “Love Rain” this year, returns to the top
20 with a new single, “To Dream a Wish” for the drama series, Iris. “To
Dream a Wish” is the main theme number for Lee Byung Hyun; the song
depicts his lonely character. Kim Tae Woo’s vocals showcase this mood
well.

Two years ago, Ivy rose to become one of the top female soloists in
Korea. Her career was briefly derailed by a scandal with her
ex-boyfriend. Now she puts the past behind her and finally returns with
her third studio album. This album showcases both her innocence as well
as her sexiness. The album title is “I Be” which means I’m Ivy as well
as I’m Starting and I Exist. The title track is “Touch Me” which is a
pop number that has a simple melody with electronica sounds. It was
composed by Psy and Yoo Gun Hyung. Like her past hit, Sonata of
Temptation, “Touch Me” shows her sexiness and charisma only Ivy can
bring out. This week “Touch Me” dropped 6 spots to No. 19.

First time in our chart history that three songs from the same drama is
on the top 20 in the same week! “Boys Over Flower” also placed three
top 20 songs earlier this year, but they were not on the same week. The
third top 20 song from the mega KBS drama “Iris” is by a new ballad
duo, December. Fittingly, they scored their first ever top 20 hit this
month. Formed by Yoon Hyuk and DK, they released their 1st EP “Dear My
Lover” back in October. This song is also included in their EP and the
Iris OST. December’s voices and styles remind us of the classic Brown
Eyes.

Our last bonus track this year is a great song. Known as the “unknown
musician”, producer and composer 1sagain makes a comeback with his
first project album with newbie singer IhKa. Back in 2008, Ikha debuted
with her first album [Introducing One’s Dream]. The song on this single
“It Aches” is a medium tempo ballad track that showcases IhKa’s sad
voice and 1sagain’s great rapping skills. The song was written by
lyricist Choi Kyung Yi and produced by composer Jung Pil Seung.

Singer Lee Hyun-woo was born in Seoul in 1966. He studied in the US and
returned to Korea, debuting in as a singer in 1991. Lee Hyun-woo’s
debut album “Black Rainbow” was an instant success. Lee later entered
in the acting world, appearing in various television drama series.
Currently, Lee Hyun-woo performs as a singer, a radio DJ, an actor and
has also opened his own clothing store. “Dream” was the title song from
his debut album in 1991, and was the hit song that introduced Lee Hyun
