Comment: 2PM edged out Lee Hyori by six points and moves up to No. 1 with “Without U” on only the song’s third week on the chart. Now officially a 6-membered group, 2PM is back with their 3rd single album titled “Don’t Stop, Can’t Stop”. Once again, Park Jin Young produced their latest single that shows the more deeper and mature musical side. The title track, “Without U” is about how a man is hurt by a woman’s lies and betrayal. To express the emotion of hurt in a break up, a piano melody is repeated in the song. You will be able to see how the members have changed into a more mature, modern and chic without forgetting to show their ‘2PM style’ in music.

Comment: Lee Hyori dropped back one spot this week to No. 2with “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. The queen of k-pop, Lee Hyori has returned this year with her fourth studio album, “H-Logic”. Known for setting trends as well as being a pop icon, Hyori has returned after two years with a “well-made” album consisting of 14 new tracks. H-Logic is supposed to consist of “real sound” as it was produced by composer Ryan Jhun of Marcan Entertainment, known for working in New York, and Bahnus who has made his name known in Europe as well as the United States. The two have worked in composition as well as making their own sounds with instruments. The title track “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” is written by none other than the singer herself, as Hyori reveals her songwriting talent for the first time.

Comment: It is not common these days for a song to gain more and more popularity more than month after ite release, but it is happening to Hot Potato’s “Confession”. Hot Potato is back with Kim C, who was very surprised at how well this song is doing in the music charts. Their latest album “Seesaw” contains songs with both sweet love and sad endings. Title song “Confession” suddenly made big jumps on many charts this week including ours, plus their always solid album sales enables the song to move up 13 spots into the top 5.

6. (+3) Gummy – 사랑은 없다 (There Is No Love)

Comment: Gummy returns with a change in genre and vocals. Her new song “There Is No Love” shows her improvements as a powerful r&b vocalist. The song is about women who always give their all in loving some but always end up getting hurt. This week it moves up three spots to No. 6. Gummy is currently promoting another song “Since You’re A Man”. Expect that song to debut on our chart soon.

Comment: A surprised hot shot debut this week but not that surprising considered that this song is ranked very high on every internet charts in Korea. One of the great female vocalists in Korea, Suh Young Eun, teams up with Brown Eyed Soul’s Jung Yup to produce a wonderful duet ballad “Those Good-For-Nothing Words”. Suh Young Eun says that this song was made but without a title. Finally, she came up with the title after inspiration from current ongoing hit drama “Cinderella Sister.” (credits to ~S2~)

Comment: Monday Kiz returns after the tragic loss of their member, Kim Min Soo in 2008. The group returns with Lee Jin Sung plus two new members and the song, “Scattered.” From the beginning, the three member’s vocals are reminiscent of the late Kim Min Soo’s. “Scattered” is written by Han Sang Won who also wrote the group’s previous hits like “Footstep” and ‘”Destiny. “Scattered” moves up two spots to No. 9 this week. Monday Kiz will release their 4th album next week.

It is our biggest mover this week. The song is about how a man should live proudly like a man but at times can be weaker than a woman. Bobby Kim said that this album is about joy, love and loss of his life put altogether. He hopes that his fans will be able to find hope and their dreams from his album. Bobby Kim’s songs are known for its longevity. Expect this song to stay on the chart for a long time.

Yim Jae Bum had a famous duet with Lena Park “Scars Deeper Than Love” many years ago. This time he teams up with another female singer Younha for this song. Perhaps riding 2AM’s popularity so far this year it helps this song to become the group’s latest top 20 hit, replacing “I Was Wrong”. It is a great ballad with strong vocals from 2AM members.

Comment: Brown Eyed Soul’s “I Will Move Aside” dropped to the edge of the top 20 this week. Brown Eyed Soul returns after two years and 5 months with a double single. The songs included in it are the title track, “I Will Move Aside” and follow up number “Blowin’ My Mind.” “I Will Move Aside” is a R&B ballad number with lyrics about telling another person about leaving a loved one’s side coolly. The song starts off with Jung Yeop, Young Jun, and Sang Hoon’s emotional vocals and ends with Naul’s passionate voice. Brown Eyed Soul just released their second double single “Love Ballad/Never Forget” this week. Expect to see a new song from them soon.

Comment: UN (United N-Generation) is a male duo formed by Kim Jung Hoon and Choi Jung Won. They had two different images. Kim Jung Hoon displayed a soft image while Choi Jung Won showed a strong look. UN debuted in 2000, at the time the first golden era for boy groups. They immediately found success on their debut song “Voice Mail”. In 2001, UN released their second album which was also their most successful album as it produced two No. 1 songs, becoming one of the very few artists to have two charting topping hits from the same album. “Gift” being one of the No. 1 songs. This ballad is well written and able to demonstrate the vocal strength of both members. The MV of this song stars Kim Rae Won, a viturally unknown actor at the time. UN went on to have a steady career until they broke up in 2006. Kim Jung Hoon went on to become a successful actor and have appeared in many dramas now. Choi Jung Won also appears in various TV shows developing his career as an entertainer.
