Davichi is arguably one of the few mainstream artists recognized for both their looks and talented vocals skills. The duo which consists of members Lee Hae Ri and Kang Min Kyung, debuted in early 2008 and made its breakthrough last year with “8282.” During the past two years, the girls kept themselves busy by taking part in various project groups and soundtracks. This year, Davichi has returned with a brand new mini album titled “Innocence,” one year and three months since their last. There are a total of five tracks, produced by Korea’s top composers.

The title track is “Time, Stop,” a powerful ballad number that incorporates punk rock elements. It is very reminiscent of Davichi’s previous hit, “8282” in the sense that it starts off slowly with mellow vocal arrangements followed by powerful singing and upbeat rock beats. This transition is quite catchy, and it made me want to jump up and down to the beat. Overall, the song is very energetic and Davichi’s strong vocals further livened the mood.

The album continues on with “First Kiss,” my favorite song out of the five. Its bouncy retro beats are very addictive and I liked how it seemed to fit perfectly with the singer’s nervous feelings about wanting to kiss her lover. The duo’s smooth and expressive vocals perfected this cute dance track.

The album makes a turnabout with an emotional ballad number “Can’t Love, Can’t Part.” The beautiful piano arrangements flow well with Lee and Kang’s harmonization. The only problem I had with the song was that it was too generic; if it were not for Davichi, the song would not be worth listening.

The album ends with “Shadow,” another retro influenced pop song. Once again, listeners can hear the girls’ powerful vocals which are pleasant to hear. However, the repetitive “Woo’s,” and “One night of shadow’s” sung throughout the number were quite annoying. I could definitely do without this song.

In conclusion, Davichi did a great job releasing new catchy music. Their vocals have once again exceeded my expectations and “Innocence” gave the duo another chance to express it. Fans and non-fans alike should definitely give Davichi a try.
