I’ve always been a fan of Lyn and her music because she just does an incredible job mastering each song, putting in so much emotion into them. With countless hit such as “But We Loved,” “Have You Ever Been Hurt By Love,” and “True Story” under her belt, it’s no surprise that such a talented singer is well-received by many others as well. This year, Lyn returns with part two of her sixth album titled, “Candy Train.” As the album title suggests, this album is packed with five sweet and happy love songs. Famous artists such as Loveholic, Humming Urban Stereo, and indie band, Mate helped with the composition while Lyn herself penned the lyrics to all the tracks.

The album starts off with “Date Me,” a light, medium-tempo pop number. Because the song was composed by Loveholic’s Kang Hyun Min, it’s no surprise that the style is reminiscent of Loveholic’s musical taste. Lyn’s soothing vocals seem to harmonize beautifully with the guitar arrangements – it’s like cotton candy to the ears. All in all, a good starter for what the album has in store for listeners.

The next song is the title track, “Darling, Honey, Love,” a slightly upbeat love song with cute lyrics, where the lover is pretty much perfect in the singer’s eyes. In my opinion, the lyrics are the highlight of the song, so props to the artist herself. The song is more pop based so fans of K-Pop will probably enjoy it.

“AH AH!” on the other hand is a very smooth electronica and jazz fused number. Electropop band, Humming Urban Stereo’s member, Lee Ji Rin is responsible for this track. The groovy keyboard and other instruments which play a huge role in the melody-making blend well with Lyn’s vocals. The music style is a nice change, and I thoroughly enjoyed this song.

The album continues on with “Special Day,” composed by Mate’s vocalist and keyboardist, Jung Jin Il. This ballad number, solely lead by piano accompaniment reminded me of some of Lyn’s older works. It’s a very relaxing number and the lack of other instrumentals helped accentuate Lyn’s emotional vocals.

“Candy Train” ends with “Sweetheart,” yet another beautiful love song. Composed by one of Korea’s top composers, Kim Hyun Chul, this medium tempo piece gives off bossa nova sounds, making it a very mellow, lovable track.

The musical styles shown in this album were a bit different from what Lyn originally started off with. Obviously, there’s a bit more variety, as Lyn experimented with electronica, jazz, and bubbly pop whereas in the past, she was more about sad ballads and smooth R&B tracks. Despite the change, I believe Lyn did a great job. Fans and non-fans alike should definitely check out this album, if not the artist.
