Comment: DJ DOC moves up two more spots to No. 1 this week with “I’m This Kind Of Person”.  They are one of the most prominent old skool K-Pop/hip-hop groups with past hits like “Run to You”, “Dance With DOC”, and “Summer Story”.  DJ DOC returns after six years with its seventh album, “Appreciation”. This album marks the group’s 15th anniversary in the music industry. The title track “I’m This Kind of Person” is an electronica number with fun lyrics and is expected to capture listeners’ ears. This song along with others from this album has already ranked very high on various music charts and the album is also selling well.  It is not surprising that they won by a large margin this week.

Comment: This is the title track of Miss A’s first single album, ‘Bad But Good.’ It’s Miss A’s debut single, which became the talk of the town even before its release because it was produced by Park Jin-young. It’s a medium tempo song with a combination of a rich European-style musical melody and intense American-style hip-hop rhythm. Comment: Perhaps the top duet this year, 2AM’s Chang Min and and 8eight’s Lee Hyun join hands with producer Bang Shi Hyuk for his project, Homme by “Hitman Bang” in time for the summer. The rock, pop, and R&B hybrid number, “Eat Well” uses guitar and drum sounds to refresh listeners’ hearts. It’s the type of song that will make listeners just drop what they are doing and leave. The two artists’ powerful harmonization will definitely make listeners feel the emotions of the song. This week it moves over a lot of strong competition and up six spots to No. 3.

Comment: After a hiatus of three years to concentrate on his overseas activities, Se7en finally makes a comeback in Korea with mini-album “Digital Bounce”. The title track is “Better Together”, created by YG’s main producer Teddy, who also composed 2NE1’s “Fire”, “I Don’t Care”, and more. This is a listener friendly dance beat song perfect for the summer.  “Better Togther” dropped two spots to No. 4 this week.

Comment: SHINee, who received much love with “Ring Ding Dong”, returns this summer transformed, in time for their second album, “Lucifer”. Through this new 13 track album, fans are able to hear a variety of music styles in addition to the members’ skillful vocals. The title track is “Lucifer”, which uses both the break dance genre popular in the ‘80s along with urban electronica. The powerful rhythms are expected to be refreshing and addictive. The lyrics portray a selfish heart who mistakes obsession as love, going back and forth between blackmail and conciliation.  This week it drops one spot to No. 5.

Comment: Perhaps the most anticipated new female solo singer this year, G.NA makes her debut this summer with mini album, “Draw G’s First Breath”. G.NA (Korean name: Choi Gina) worked with famous composer Kim Do Hoon, who composed the title track “I’ll Back Off So Live Well”, yet she alone produced the entire album. Wheesung is responsible for penning the lyrics to this track. This mid-tempo track has an unforgettable melody line that is as shocking as the title of the song. BEAST member, Yong Jun Hyung, helps out with the rap featuring in the song as well. This week it remains at No. 6.

Comment: One of the top K-Pop acts in the last decade, BoA returns after five years with her sixth Korean album titled, “Hurricane Venus” after busy working overseas in Japan and the United States. The upcoming album will be released to celebrate her ten year anniversary in the music industry. The title track is “Hurricane Venus”,  where BoA will show her various colors.  It is doing very well on both the singles and album charts, showing that fans have not forgotten BoA despite her lengthy absense in K-Pop and the industry has changed so much since her last album. This week “Hurricane Venus” moves up 15 spots to No. 7.

The title track is “Look Look Look”, a dance number with electronica sounds and Miami beats. This dynamic song is expected to excite fans once more. This song is about a new generation of women and men who are shy about love. The song is garners even more interest because veteran singer Kim Gun Mo took part in the chorus. This week it moves up another spot to No. 9.

Comment: Park Myung Soo teamed up with SNSD’s Jessica last year to record the fun song “Cold Noodle”. He is back again this year, teamming up with a member of another prominent girl group: Nicole of Kara.  This is yet another fun song with a cute cartoon MV.  “Whale” did even better than “Cold Noodle” last year as it hits the top 10.  This week it is moving up a spot again at No. 11.

Comment: After their top 3 hit “HUH”, 4minute is back with their follow up song “I My Me Mine”, and it remains at No. 13 this week. This is another song that displays 4minute’s fierce image on stage despite their young age. It is destined to be another big hit for the group. 4minute is set to make their Japanese debut. We wish them luck.

Comment: Taeyang’s “I Need A Girl” drops nine spots to No. 14 this week. Taeyang, who received much love for his mini album, “Hot”, returned after two years with his first full length album, “Solar”. This album holds special meaning for the singer as it celebrates the 10 year dream he had since his days as a trainee. The title track is “I Need a Girl”, which was composed by rookie producer Jun Koon. Taeyang’s mellow vocals flow well with the easy melody line and special rap featuring by fellow Big Bang member, G-Dragon. This song was a two time winner at Inky Gayo.

Comment: Gilme releases her first album, “Love Actually” after releasing three singles, “Love Cuts” featuring Eun Ji Won, “Why You To Me” featuring Jung Yup of Brown Eyed Soul, and “Love Is War” featuring Outsider beforehand. In these songs, Gilme shows listeners her rapping and singing talents. Her new album includes these songs plus six new songs. The songs entail love stories that are very much possible in real life, so anyone can definitely relate to them. The title song “Sorry For Loving You” featuring K.Will moves up two spots this week to No. 15.

A 30 member orchestra takes part in the song, creating a beautiful accompaniment to Davichi’s sweet and refreshing vocals. The song is perfect for the summer. This week it moves up two spots to No. 16.

Comment: Zi-A transforms and makes a comeback with a new mini album titled, “Difference.” The singer already has many hit songs under her belt including “Gaze,” “Feel Like Bursting,” and “Have One Glass of Alcohol With Me.” This time, Zi-A joins hands with  producer Jo Young Chul who helped Brown Eyed Girls rise to fame with “Abracadabra” and producer Choi Gap Won. The title track is “Just a Smile”, which was composed by the composer who wrote Narsha’s “Queen B” and Brown Eyed Girl’s “Glam Girl.” This hybrid ballad will show yet another side of Zi-A who’s known for her popular ballads.  This week it is one of our biggest movers, up 24 spots to No. 17.

Comment: Former Fly to the Sky member, Hwanhee, makes a comeback this summer with his second mini album, “H-Hour” – it’s been ten months since his first. This time around, Hwanhee took part in producing the album himself and with the help of composers Choi Gyu Sung, RADO, Kim Tae Hyun, and others, completed his second solo work. The title track is “While Doing,” which was composed by Choi Gyu Song and RADO. Overall, the medium tempo number has a bright feel along with a sad melody line. Hwanhee’s vocals help bring out the hurting breakup mood of the song.  This week it moves up 19 spots to No. 18.

Comment: Misty Eyed Girl initially debuted in 2006 with the album “Boy Documentary” through the band, OKBand. The band did not last long and after less than six months of promotions, disbanded. Four years later, Misty Eyed Girl returns with their first EP titled, “Rewinds and Restart Vol. 1.” Unlike OKBand’s music the songs in this album don’t worry about what genres the songs are, and created songs using much freedom. Comment: BoA (Beat of Angel) Kwon is a Korean singer who is also active and famous in Asia and has also debuted in the US. She debuted in Korea in 2000 at just 14 years of age with ID; Peace B. Two years later she released her first Japanese album Listen To My Heart.  Her first release in the US was single Eat You Up in 2008 and a full album early in 2009. She is definitely one of the most famous and influential artists in Asia and is often called the Queen of K-Pop.
