Ten Random K-Pop Moments From 2010

Every year has its moments. I’m just glad the emotional “blood letters” stopped in 2010. That trend needed to go! This year, K-Pop experienced a lot of legal issues. However, every now and then, a news piece would appear that made me sit up, gawk, laugh, cry (out of secondhand embarassment), or just grabbed my attention. It’s not necessary to categorize them. They’re just random bits of “news” that helped make 2010 the year that it was! Everyone is entitled to his or her own choices. These are my picks! Here we go! In no particular order…

1. FAN DRAWN “NO MARRIAGE” CONTRACT

This happened recently at a JYJ signing in Korea. A fan brought this contract for Junsu to sign and without a second thought, he signed it! Fan goes home in satisfaction and posts the contract online for the rest of us to gawk and laugh at. It basically says Junsu can’t get married for a certain time. Oh Junsu! Look at what you’re signing before you sign it!

2. PHONE CHAT WITH JAY PARK, NARSHA, AND JEA

According to the ad in this Singaporean newspaper “The New Paper”, if I dial that 900 number I can chat with Jay Park and The Brown Eyed Girls!! …What?? What’s that, logical side of my brain?? I can’t?? Oh… What utter fail!!

3. CHINESE MENU SERVES UP GIRLS’ GENERATION DISHES

Unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the restaurant. But somewhere in Korea there is a Chinese restaurant that offers meal sets named after the members of Girls’ Generation. The Yoona set is the most expensive and the cheapest is the Sunny set. Not sure why they aren’t all priced equally, but we do live in a world of unfair pricing anyway. The question is… do the meal sets actually taste good?? Or is this just really easy adverising??

4. HEECHUL WINDS UP IN LOCAL CALIFORNIA NEWSPAPER

Next to LA there’s this city called San Bernardino that’s really boring and no one has anything to do there. So that’s why whoever cooked this article up, I can totally sympathize and understand why they felt The San Bernardino County Sun needed this. There was nothing else to report on.

5. NICHKHUN “MERRY ICEMAS” COMMERCIAL

Ahh. It’s stuff like this that will forever prevent Nichkhun from being seen as a beastly man idol. Seeing this? I can’t separate Nichkhun from the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

6. HEECHUL TOPS TWITTER TRENDS

Heechul is #9 on the list of Top 10 Twitter Trends in the “People” category. It’s a remarkable feat…?

7. ELI’S HAND PIERCING

There?? Really?? I can barely see it!! All right Eli. You’re the one in U-Kiss not me. You can pierce whatever you want.

8. ORANGE CARAMEL BRAVES PUBLIC FAST FOOD RESTAURANT

OK, whether you’re Orange Caramel or not wearing bright orange vinyl is gonna get you noticed just about anywhere. This is astonishingly cute though!! I’m sure they were aware of what they were doing before they walked in. Video shows they were pretty humble and nice throughout the whole ordeal!

9. STALKER SUPER JUNIOR CAB IN TAIWAN

Taipei was one of the stops earlier this year in Super Junior’s Super Show II tour. For fans, and definitely not sponsored by Super Junior or SM Entertainment, this stalker cab was available for around $400.

10. F.CUZ “MIDNIGHT SUN” TEASER

This just came out of nowhere!! They went from “Jiggy” and “No One” to this and then the actual music video was nowhere near as raunchy as the teaser. Way to crush my dreams, F.Cuz!!
