U.S. Release of “The Last Godfather” Scheduled for April Fools’ Day

Comedian/director Shim Hyung Rae’s The Last Godfather is slated for an April Fools’ Day theatrical release in the United States. CJ E&M, the film’s domestic distributor, announced its plans to open the movie on April 1st to the following U.S. cities: New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The movie will also play in Toronto, Vancouver and 11 other Canadian provinces starting April 15th.

Roadside Attractions LLC, owned by Lionsgate, will be responsible for marketing and distributing The Last Godfather throughout North American theaters. Lionsgate has produced hits like the Saw (2004-2010) series, Kick-Ass (2010) and The Expendables (2010). The Last Godfather will begin by premiering in 55 theaters nationwide and slowly work itself up to megaplex theaters as Shim Hyung Rae promotes in New York and Los Angeles. Comedian Shim Hyung Rae will be present at New York City’s Tribeca Cinema on March 28th-29th for the North American premiere of the movie. He will also attend the opening party at the CGV theater in Los Angeles.   

The Last Godfather opened in Korean theaters December 29, 2010. Comedian-turned-director Shim Hyung Rae stars as Young Gu, a mentally-impaired son of mafia leader Don Carini. The movie is a comedic unofficial follow-up to Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather (1972).
