KBS Drama “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo” to Broadcast on Japanese Network TV

Last year’s biggest hit drama, KBS “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo,” will be aired in Japan on one of their largest network channels Fuji TV, Japanese media reported on Tuesday. According to Sankei Sports, Fuji TV will start showing the popular drama show from this July through its network channel. Competition for the rights to the show was extremely high, according to the report, as it was one of the most popular dramas ever to be shown in Korea.

The fast storyline and dramatic development of “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo,” has earned enormous popularity in Korea, recording a 50% TV rating for its final episode and 58.1% for its peak moment rating. It was the first show in three years to crack the 50% TV rating milestone since MBC drama Jumong,” and the 38.7% average TV rating it recorded was the fifth highest in history. Following this news, actor Yoon Shi Yoon who played the leading role in the drama gave out a special message to his Japanese fans saying, “With hope, you can overcome any type of adversity. I believe that’s the power of Japanese people. Miracles do happen. We (Koreans) are always close to you so I hope to be of help to you all.”

KBS “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo” is about Kim Tak Goo’s battle to become the country’s top baker. He is the eldest son of a baking legend, however, was born to his mistress causing other family members to plot against him and take away his inheritance.
