Celeb Style File: Son Ye Jin

Celeb Style File is our weekly in-depth look at a celebrity’s real-life style.  This week, we’ve chosen to feature the timeless actress Son Ye Jin, who most recently starred in the romantic comedy drama “Personal Taste”.  Here we look at her public appearances during the past year.

Son Ye Jin cemented her status as one of the most popular leading ladies during the peak of the hallyu wave by starring in hit romantic tearjerker films such as “Lovers’ Concerto” and “The Classic” in the early 2000’s.  Well known for her ingenue image, Son began to diversify her output, purposely taking on edgier roles in an attempt to shatter the “nice girl” archetype which had become her trademark.  In recent years, she has played a con artist, a sexy femme fatale, and a manipulative ice queen — each a far cry from the fresh-faced innocent girl she played after her debut.

Son Ye Jin’s wardrobe is a bit like her acting career.  She’s not afraid to experiment with different styles, but she often chooses clothes that are bolder than what you might expect from her.  Consider the daring Prada banana-print skirt, which she inventively paired with a classic button-down and Panama hat, or the asymmetrical orange Blumarine gown she wore to the 30th Blue Dragon Awards.  Not exactly the kinds of outfits you would have seen her wearing in her earlier films and dramas!  On the other hand, she’s not averse to sweet, simple styles; for the press conference of “Personal Taste”, she wore a ruffly blush pink dress that suited her return to light romantic comedy.

“My Black Minidress” premiere, in skirt from Prada S/S 2011 RTW

“The Yellow Sea” premiere

Director appreciation award ceremony, in dress from Obzee

15th Pusan Film Festival, in Valentino Pre-Fall 2010

“Cyrano Agency” premiere

Cartier’s “Love” Charity collection exhibition, in Chloe shirt and shorts from S/S 2010 RTW, Acne Gemini sandals, and Louis Vuitton bag

Personal Taste” press conference, in Fendi S/S 2010 RTW

30th Blue Dragon Film Awards, in Blumarine gown

Our favorite outfit: It’s a tough call, but we think maybe the Chloe outfit at the Cartier event takes the edge (although a belt would have been nice).  The sleeveless black dress she wore with a high ponytail was also pretty cute.

Our least favorite outfit: Has to be the black sleeveless blazer which she paired with unflattering pants, a backpack, and a hairdo that makes it look like she rolled right out of bed.

As always, if you have suggestions for celebrities to feature, please let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate!  See you next weekend!
