Will Jung Yong Hwa’s “Heartstrings” Be Able to Overtake Lee Min Ho’s “City Hunter” Tonight?

After months of teasing, “Heartstrings” will finally make its grand premiere on MBC tonight. The youth melodrama promises to excite both old and young viewers with its hip cast and fresh storyline. CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye reunited for their second drama production in two years, and the two will play music students Lee Shin and Lee Gyu Won respectively. Jung Yong Hwa’s Lee Shin is described as the quintessential Mr. Darcy-like character – the irresistibly arrogant, distant, and handsome lead vocalist and guitarist of college band “The Stupid.” Lee Gyu Won, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. She’s a vivacious music student studying the gayageum, a traditional Korean twelve-stringed instrument. The repairing of one of kdrama’s most beloved couple has both domestic and international fans giddying with delight.

Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye were part of popular trendy drama “You’re Beautiful,” alongside Jang Geun Suk and FT Island’s Lee Hong Ki, in 2009. Many Shin Woo-Mi Nam fans were left feeling empty-handed as MiNam ended up with Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Geun Suk). As a result, fans have been dearly wishing for these two to be coupled off. For two months, viewers are highly anticipating Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye to light up the small screen with their perfect on-screen chemistry.

The drama also stars CNBlue drummer Kang Min Hyuk, who plays Lee Shin’s best friend and “The Stupid’s” band leader Yeo Jeon Hee. “Heartstrings” is also garnering a lot of interest and expectations because of director Pyo Min Soo – the mastermind behind hallyu favorite “Full House” (2004), starring Jung Ji Hoon (aka Rain) and Song Hye Gyo. Fans were given a taste of the drama with various stills, teaser previews, and OST releases. Additionally, many are interested to see if “Heartstrings” will be able to fill “The Greatest Love’s” shoes and overtake Lee Min Ho’sCity Hunter” in the Wednesday-Thursday viewer ratings.

What do you Soompiers think? Will melodrama “Heartstrings” overtake action blockbuster “City Hunter” tonight?

“Heartstrings” premieres tonight on MBC at 9:55PM KST.
