SNSD: “More Mature and Composed” at “2011 Girls’ Generation Tour”

SNSD wrapped up their “2011 Girls’ Generation Tour” on July 24^th in Seoul, with more than 10,000 fans from around the world in attendance. The event was held in the same format as the “Japan Arena Tour” that covered six Japanese cities over 14 total concerts. The girls sang a total of 32 songs, while switching outfits seven times, during the three-hour extravaganza.

Kicking off the concert with their megahit single, “Genie,” SNSD gave a relay performance of “Gee,” “Run Devil Run,” “Hoot,” and “Kissing You.” They also unveiled Korean versions of “Mr. Taxi” and “Let It Rain” for the first time on stage.

There were also special solo performances by each individual member. Hyoyeon, known by many as the best dancer of the group, gave a cover performance of Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music” with complete choreography. Jessica played the piano for a cover of Tamia’s “Almost,” while Yuri, Sooyoung, YoonA, Sunny, and Seohyun all gave the best imitation of their favorite artists such as Janet Jackson, Pussycat Dolls, and Madonna. Taeyeon and Tiffany, meanwhile, gave a duet performance of “Lady Marmalade” from the OST of movie “Moulin Rouge.”

At a press conference held prior to the concert, SNSD was asked what made them so popular around the world. “SM Entertainment’s system is very global. Our choreographer is Japanese and we get songs from European songwriters. We think that creates a lot of common ground with overseas fans,” SNSD said. Sooyoung added, “I think the unique color and performance of each of the nine members, as well as the efforts and works of our staff and songwriters have all contributed to the popularity from around the world.”

“Compared to our first concert in December 2009, we think we’ve become more mature and more composed. The 14 Arena Tour concerts in Japan allowed us to more enjoy the moment on stage,” SNSD said, as they shared their thoughts on the explosive fanfare on the group and SM Town as a whole. “After seeing all the flash mobs from around the world, we realized the only global common language is ‘music.’ The best way for us to return the love is to visit and hold a concert in each country. For that to happen, we need to arrange our schedules with other SM artists, but we would love to go meet our fans overseas as soon as possible,”
