"K-Pop All Star Live in Niigata" Meets the Press

Twelve of K-Pop’s biggest and brightest groups headed over to Japan on August 20th to perform at MBC’s “K-Pop All Star Live in Niigata.”  The event, hosted by SNSD’s Sooyoung, Tiffany and Yuri, featured performances by 2AM, 2PM, 4Minute, BEAST, CN Blue, Infinite, Kara, Norazo, Secret, Sistar, SNSD and Teen Top.

The concert is held in support of reconstruction efforts for those who were adversely affected by the March earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan.  It is also the third in a series of K-Pop all-star events, sponsored by MBC in celebration of its 50th year.

At the press conference held just before the concert, the performers offered a moment of silence as a gesture of condolence.

“Because of the earthquake, many have gone through harsh times and our coming here to stage a show and perform some songs will perhaps give a little bit of hope,” SNSD said on behalf of their fellow artists.

Going into the night’s show, 2AM and 2PM are fresh from “JYP Nation in Japan” held at the Saitama Super Arena on August 17th and 18th.  The two groups, forming “One Day” also prepared a collaboration performance for the Niigata audience of around 40,000.

Another special collaboration for Niigata fans was a duet between CN Blue’s Jung Yong Hwa and SNSD’s Seohyun, who were once a virtual couple on “We Got Married.”  The couple performed a live duet of the “Banmal Song,” a version of which they had made public through the popular program.  Although the YongSeo couple has already ended on “We Got Married,” they have gained a following in Japan.  The special performance, which has not even happened in Korea was a treat for their fans.

In the same manner, Kara held a joint performance with Infinite, combining the two groups’ singing and dancing power.

“K-Pop All Star Live in Niigata” was held at the Niigata Black Swan Stadium, with around 300 high school students from around and in affected areas watching for free.  MBC will air the recorded broadcast over the Chuseok holiday.
