Super Junior to Continue as Eight, Remain Global YouTube Favorites
Today I bring you both good and bad news regarding Super Junior. Let’s get the bad out of the way first shall we?
As you all know, member Kim Heechul will be following Kang In to the military. He has decided to start his mandatory military service with his four week basic training on September 1st and then he will carry out his official military duties for 23 months. We wish him the best of luck!
As we showed you previously Heechul gave a heartfelt goodbye to his fans on Inkigayo prompting Leeteuk to cry, unable to hold back his sadness at the departure. Heechul sent a loving tweet to his fans, the group, and Leeteuk saying,
“To my friend JungSoo (Leeteuk’s birth name) and to all of my Super Junior members, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m sure all our fans know I’m not good at expressing my feelings, so I’ll leave you with that. I’ll be back– take care of yourselves!”
Leeteuk however could not bring himself to be positive about the situation at first and posted a tweet that certainly got fans worrying saying:
“I tried to be patient but this is too hard… Really…Very…I feel like my body’s about to break into nothingness. I think it’s telling me I should die.”
Leeteuk seems to be having a hard time with Heechul’s departure but hopefully the rest of the group will stay strong together and move forwards, because, yes, Super Junior will be continuing as a group. The number of members seems to change but the group always stays strong and the next time we see them as a group they will be eight.
The other member who will not be in the next line-up for the time being is Choi Siwon who is unable to dedicate his time to upcoming drama “Poseidon” as well as Super Junior activities. So, the group is down to eight, but knowing the strength of the fandom from the many line-up changes, ELF’s will be able to cope. However, Heechul and Siwon will be very much missed.
It’s good news that the group will continue in the near future regardless and to cheer ELF’s up more, the group have also made some big waves on the Internet, more specifically on YouTube. In their global chart ranking system, their music video for “Mr Simple” has placed fifth! With 9,409,999 views, (July 27th to August 26th) they placed fifth, only beaten by:
4th: A video of Taylor Swift’s unfortunate onstage wardrobe malfunction. (You just can’t make this stuff up can you?)
3rd: Kanye West and Jay-Z
2nd: Nissan
1st: Lady Gaga.
Back home on YouTube Korea they also picked up the titles of “Most Viewed,” “Most Commented,” and “Most Favorited.”
So despite members temporarily leaving, Super Junior will continue on as strong as ever because if they have shown before, no matter what happens, Super Junior know how to get results.
