Kim Ki Duk's "Arirang" to Open at Tokyo Filmex
Cannes Film Festival Uncertain Regard category winner “Arirang” by Kim Ki Duk opens on November 12 at the Tokyo Filmex. “Arirang” will not be in the competition but three other Korean films are among a selection of the 10 in the competition.
Heo Jong Ho’s “Countdown,” starring Jeon Do Yeon, Park Jung Bum’s “The Journals of Musan” and Kim Ki Duk protégé Jeon Jai Hong’s “Poongsan” will be competing in the festival running from November 19 to 27.
“Arirang” had also previously taken the grand prize at the New Horizons Film Festival in Poland. It was just screened at the 36th Toronto International Film Festival.
Kim Ki Duk is a celebrated arthouse filmmaker of world cinema recognition. His previous films include the Jae Hee acting piece “3 Iron” and “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter…and Spring,” among others.
