Korean Wave Strikes at F1 Grand Prix Korea

On October 15, the official race course for the F1 Grand Prix Korea was opened in Yeongam. 200,000 people gathered for the debut of the Korean International Circuit track. Hallyu struck the grand opening of the 5.615 kilometer race circuit.

The main idols who represent the Korean wave were present: ranging from SNSD, Super Junior, T-ara, Davichi, 4Minute, F.T. Island, Infinite, Jewelry, Orange Caramel, Brown Eyed Girls, along with many other idol groups to give a two hour performance for the opening celebrations.

A majority of the people who formed the audience were not racing fans, but rather were more interested in the performers, waiting early in the morning to see live performances of their favorite groups. Such a gathering only strengthens the presence of the Hallyu and the successful performances of the idol groups seemed to satsify the large number of foreigners on the scene. Along the spectators were Daria and Sonia, who claimed their reason for taking Korean classes was because of Super Junior and were further thrilled when the group noticed them in the front row of the audience and greeted them in Russian.
