f(x) Luna's Automatic University Enrollment Becomes a Controversy

“The porthole for ‘special enrollment’ has once again opened,” “Her image was good but it’s gone now,” “I guess a desperate student who really wanted to get into Chung-Ang University’s Drama & Cinema department will be rejected.”

These are the criticisms that rained on f(x)’s Luna for being automatically accepted into the Drama & Cinema department of Chung-Ang University. Luna was accepted into Chung-Ang University without having to take a performance exam or having to do an interview. Every year, around this time, many celebrities receive criticism regarding their college acceptances. This year, it started with Luna. Moreover, IU and Yoo Seung Ho’s decision to not attend college for the time being is shining even more negative light on Luna. 

People are saying that Luna’s skills and automatic entry into college does not match up with the countless hours of labor and efforts of many other prospective students. The general public’s opinion is that the talents of celebrities do not level up with the hours of studying and efforts of the high school seniors. People also criticize celebrities who have outstanding acting or singing skills and do not enter into a field of study that is related to those things. 

However, Luna has showed exceptional singing and acting skills, especially through her recent musicals, “Legally Blonde” and “Coyote Ugly.” And also, Luna has started vocal and acting training at a young age, since she entered SM entertainment. She participated in many music videos, dramas, plays and even variety shows, which stacked up her experience. 

The criteria for a “special acceptance” into Chung-Ang University is explicitly listed on their homepage. It says, “Applicants with strong experience or with official awards in plays, musicals, movies, TV and more will be accepted. Each applicant’s experience must be from January 1, 2007 and on.” f(x) has debuted in 2009 and starting from then, Luna has participated in all of the aforementioned activities. So why not?

Many other netizens know of these facts and are criticizing the netizens who were shedding a negative light on Luna. Luna’s defending netizens are saying, she has actual field experience, years of training and preparation and she took the entrance exam, fair and square, so why not?
