SBS Considering 2nd Season of "K-Pop Star"

SBS is considering the season 2 of the popular audition program, “K-Pop Star.” The producer of “K-Pop Star,” Park Sung Hoon, has met with reporters and revealed the possibility of a second season.

“K-Pop Star” aired its first show on December 14, 2011. Since its first airing, the show has produced a number of online sensations as videos of their performances spread on YouTube rapidly. Park Ji Min, for example, earned the recognition of Hollywood Stars Ashton Kutcher and Eric Benet, while being covered CNN.

Currently, the contestants are in the midst of casting auditions, vying for the 10 spots that will move on to the live show in late February. It is still early to tell since the winner of this season will not be decided until April but there is a good possibility based on current ratings and popularity.

One of the hurdles the show must face to continue on to season 2 is the joint participation of SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment. The presence of these three agencies and the focus of finding the next idol star differentiate this show from the other audition programs. Producer Park states that having a winner with a great star potential would also be a key factor in the show’s continuance.

We’ll just have to wait and see what fate lies ahead for the contestants and “K-Pop Star.”
