JYJ Set to Take On South America

The three member group, JYJ, is set to become the first Korean stand-alone act to perform in South America. On March 9, they will perform at Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile. On March 11, they will move to Lima, Peru and perform at Explanada Sur del Estadio Monumental. Both of these locations have hosted other large acts. Korn and X-Japan have performed at Teatro Caupolican, while Britney Spears, The Black Eyed Peas and Avril Lavigne have performed at Explanada Sur del Estadio Monumental.

While Cube Entertainment brought 4Minute, BEAST and other artists to Brazil last year as a part of their “United Cube in Brazil” event, this is the first time that a Korean group will perform as a stand-alone act. In South America, JYJ’s popularity has grown to surpass local artists and American ones as well. They are especially popular amongst those in their teens and twenties. Local media, such as “La Tecera” in Chile have announced JYJ’s concert and introduced them as an internationally popular male group. In Peru, Frecuencia Latina‘s news program “Punto Final” created a spot in K-Pop titled, “Pop Coreano en Lima” this past January and devoted 10 minutes to JYJ.
