T-ara's Soyeon in

After the recent whirlwind of controversies, T-ara‘s Soyeon has showed her first steps into acting, which drew mixed responses.

On August 6, the first episode of “Haeundae Lovers” aired and viewers were able to see Soyeon’s first attempt at acting.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Soyeon plays the role of Lee Kwan Soon, who is a troublemaker in the drama. She steals her father’s credit card to run away to Seoul from her home in Busan. While she was working at a night club in Seoul, she runs into Go So Ra (played by Jo Yeo Jung).

Gwan Soon ends up spilling some drinks and had to pay 1 million won (about 1,000 USD) to make up for it. Gwan Soon did not have that kind of money and was told to make up for it by participating in a show on stage. However, Gwan Soon’s fake tears moved So Ra to go up on stage herself.

Viewers were left slightly disappointed at Soyeon’s first acting attempt in that short appearance. Her facial expressions as well as her line deliveries reminded viewers that she is indeed an “idol actress.” Viewers especially expressed disappointment during Soyeon’s fake crying scene. Soyeon’s character was portrayed well but her lack of acting experience could not be hidden.

Whether the T-ara controversies had any part or not, viewers seemed to have mixed responses. Some netizens gave bad reviews and some netizens claimed that Soyeon’s acting was satisfactory considering it was her first time.

Viewers will be keeping an eye on Soyeon to see if she could improve her acting and liven up her character in the weeks to come.
