PSY's Past Hit

PSY‘s hit song “Champion” is under accusations of being racist because of its lyrics.

The singer has been receiving a lot of attention after his latest single “Gangnam Style” went viral and gained worldwide exposure through prestigious American media outlet such as CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Time and was also featured on France’s national TV.

The Gangnam Style craze is still going strong with over 53 Million views on Youtube and 17 Million views for the female version with 4Minute‘s Hyun Ah “Oppa Is My Style.”

As a result, more people apart from the average K-Pop fan have been looking at his previous work, leading in an unexpected controversy.

In particular, the highlighted part of the song that supposedly is an issue is the word “niga” which means “you” in the  chorus as the lyrics go like this, “Champion, you who screams, Champion, you who goes crazy to the music, Champion, you who enjoys life, Champion, You, Champion, You, Champion You.”
The Korean word “niga” which holds the meaning of “you” has been mistaken as the offensive N**** word. International youtubers asked for the video to be taken because of its “offensive” lyrics. On the other hand, K-Pop fans also stood up to defend PSY and explained the meaning of the word “niga.”

Meanwhile, PSY appeared on VH1‘s “Big Morning Buzz Live” on August 22.
