Regardless of season, the killing charm, the consistently final word in chic, the bold and straight-forward black has been all over this summer’s ready to wear and real wear.

Even though in the past, summer has been known as the season to wear bright pastels and flower prints, or other boldly colorful items, this summer is an exception.  This summer has seen the spread of variations on a theme–black with diverse cuts, textures, and materials–making the little black dress this summer’s biggest dress.

Let’s look at fashionista actress Gong Hyo Jin’s look.  Gong Hyo Jin is wearing a black mini dress by Jardin de Chouette, sandals by Chanel, and a flower ring by Van Cleef & Arpels.  A black mini dress could easily be monotonous and ordinary, but a balloon-detail at the waist-line gives the skirt an unexpected three-dimensional effect and draws attention to her slender legs, while her platform sandals free up the potentially heavy effect of black.

Now, turn to the curvaceous actress Kim Ah Joong’s look.  Kim Ah Joong is wearing a full-length black dress by Stella McCartney, and bracelet and earrings by Bulgari.  Her eye-catching full-length black dress accentuates her statuesque figures, and cut-outs in her dress leading to a gold belt accentuate her tiny waist.  The effect is chic and yet still avant-garde and sexy.
