 Korean manhwas and Japanese manhwas have served as inspiration for numerous films and dramas. If you didn’t know, several of the dramas that are currently airing, or have just recently finished its run, were based on manhwas. Song Hye Kyo and Rain’s “Full House” is based on manhwa “Full House” by Won Soo Yeon.

Boys over Flowers 

Boys over Flowers is a Korean adaptation of the famous Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango” by Yoko Kamio. 

City Hunter

Lee Min Ho’s extremely successful series “City Hunter” is also based on a Japanese manga of the same name.

Playful Kiss

Kim Hyun Joong’s “Playful Kiss” was based off of Japanese manga “Itazura na Kiss.”


Goong (Princess Hours) 

Yoon Eun Hye’s breakout drama “Goong (aka Princess Hours)” is based on popular Korean manhwa “Goong.” 

Tamra the Island

Seo Woo’s “Tamra the Island” is also a drama adaptation of manhwa “Tamra the Island.” 

A Man Called God

“A Man Called God,” starring Song Il Gook and Han Chae Young, is an adaptation of a manhwa of the same name, written by deceased artist Park Bong Sung. 

Shikgaek (aka The Gourmet)

Kim Rae Won’s “Shikgaek” is inspired by the manhwa by one of the most popular manhwa artists in Korea, Heo Young Man. 

Bridal Mask

Joo Won’s current drama “Bridal Mask” is based on a famous Korean manhwa of the same name. 

Dr. Jin

Recently ended series “Dr. Jin,” starring Song Seung Heon, Park Min Young, and JYJ’s Kim Jae Joong is a Korean drama adaptation of manga “JIN.” 

Mary Stayed Out All Night

Moon Geun Young and Jang Geun Suk’s “Mary Stayed Out All Night” is based on internet comic “Mary Stayed Out All Night” by Won Soo Yeon. 

To the Beautiful You

Currently airing “To the Beautiful You,” starring idols f(x)’s Sulli and SHINee’s Minho, is the third drama version of the popular Japanese manga “Hana Kimi.” 

Birdie Buddy

After School’s Uee’s “Birdie Buddy” is also based on Lee Hyun Se’s manhwa “Birdie Buddy.” 

God of Study

Master of Study” is based on the popular Japanese manga “Dragon Zakura” written by Mita Norifusa.


Go Hyung Jung and Kwon Sang Woo’s “Daemul” is also a drama adaptation of Park In Kwon’s manhwa of the same name. 

Warrior Baek Dong Soo

“Warrior Baek Dong Soo” is based on a manhwa series by Lee Jae Heon.
