The Atlantic Wire Says PSY Is More Anti-Torture Than Anti-America

While PSY is in the middle of an anti-American controversy for some of his past explicit lyrics, the American media outlet, “The Atlantic Wire,” published an article that defended PSY, calling him an “anti-torture” advocate, rather than anti-American.

This article was released online on December 11 with the title, “He’s More Anti-Torture Than Anti-America.” The article stated, “You could see how PSY could be calling…for violence against the Americans who tortured Iraqis and the authorities who ordered the torture of Iraqis, as opposed to violence directed toward every American. That changes the narrative from something that’s very anti-American to anti-American torture.”

The article also published several different translations by graduate students, native speakers and Sino-North Korea coordinators of the “Dear America” lyrics. The article also showed a Google translate version of the lyrics, which resulted in a bunch of nonsense.

Previously, regarding this controversy, PSY issued an apology by saying that the song “was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall anti-war sentiment shared by others around the world at that time.”

The Atlantic Wire article ended off with, “Not that these no translations take away any of the damage done to PSY’s reputation or minimize that much of what he said, but still: there’s your clarification for you.”
