The Late Choi Jin Shil's Ex-Husband Jo Sung Min Commits Suicide

In a series of some unfortunate news, we report that the late Choi Jin Shil‘s ex-husband Jo Sung Min (age 40) has committed suicide.

The Seoul police spoke with Star News and said, “We haven’t found the motive for his suicide yet,” and “There are no traces of physical exterior invasion but we have found a suicide note.”

According to the police, Jo Sung Min was discovered by his girlfriend, who was living with him. Before his suicide, he reportedly sent a Katalk message to his girlfriend saying, “Please live well without me. Thanks for everything.”

The police stated, “According to his girlfriend, Jo Sung Min had negative thoughts about his surroundings and struggled a lot,” and “In order to accurately analyze his motives, we will need to speak with his surviving family.”

Jo Sung Min was found dead in his apartment at around 5:30 AM. He hung himself with a belt in the bathtub of his bathroom.

After investigation, it is known that Jo Sung Min was drinking with his girlfriend at his home on the night before his death. His girlfriend had to leave the apartment because she had plans. When she returned, she discovered Jo Sung Min and called the police right away.

Jo Sung Min was a professional baseball player and got married to actress Choi Jin Shil in 2000. They filed for divorce on September of 2004. Choi Jin Shil committed suicide after struggling with depression, false rumors and cyber bullying in October of 2008. Choi Jin Shil’s younger brother Choi Jin Young also ended his life himself two years later. Jo Sung Min and Choi Jin Shil are survived by their two children, one daughter and one son.
