Lee Young Ae Repays the Love She Received During

In the second part of a documentary in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the hit drama “Dae Jang Geum,” the documentary looked back on what kind of influence the drama had in the region of Myanmar and how Lee Young Ae is repaying the love she received from China. 

In part two of a special 10th anniversary documentary called “We Go Down the Dae Jang Geum Route,” actress Lee Young Ae recounts her meeting with one of the key figures in Myanmar’s move towards democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi, along with her donations to create a primary school in China.

In the preview press release, they quote a recount by Lee Young Ae where she reveals that “Recently during a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi, she told me that she really enjoyed watching [Dae Jang Geum], and the reason that it was popular in Myanmar was because it was hope. That is what Aung San Suu Kyi thinks is the important thing and what the citizens need most, hope.”

The documentary also talks about the huge popularity “Dae Jang Geum” saw in China and how certain women got special cosmetic surgery in an effort to look like Lee Young Ae. The documentary also talks about how the creation of a “Lee Yong Ae Primary School” in a remote Chinese village. They reveal that Lee Young Ae heard about a school that was close to being shut down in 2006. She then donated to the school and the school came to be known as the “Lee Yong Ae Primary School.”

Lee Young Ae states that “For the last ten years, “Dae Jang Geum” received a lot of love across the world. However, it wasn’t just “Dae Jang Geum.” I also received a lot of love. I can’t help but think about what I could do in my position. Let’s create a school for children. It may not be elaborate, but I wanted to be at least a bit of assistance.”

The second part of the documentary will air on October 14.
