Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, then I’m sure you’ve heard about SBS’s newest drama written by Kim Eun Sook who is the brains behind last year’s “A Gentleman’s Dignity” and 2010’s “Secret Garden.” “The Heirs” is about an exclusive high school and the rich, elite students who attend it. Technically this is it, but you can also say it’s about rich kids and a poor girl who falls in love with one of the elite students at Empire High School. Either one is fine.

Here’s a run down on who’s who in “The Heirs:” Kim Tan (played by Lee Min Ho) is the heir to Empire Group who happens to fall in love with not-so-rich Cha Eun Sang (Park Shin Hye), but he’s engaged to Rachel Yoo (played by Kim Ji Won) who actually loves him. Rachel’s mother Esther is engaged to Choi Young Do (Kim Woo Bin)’s father, so this makes them step-siblings. Then we have Eun Sang’s bff Yoon Chan Young (CNBlue’s drummer Kang Min Hyuk) who is currently dating Tan’s ex-girlfriend Lee Bo Na (played by Krystal), who is also good friends with Young Do and Jo Myung Soo (ZE:A’s Hyungsik). Tan’s older half-brother is Kim Won (Choi Jin Hyuk) who is the current president of Empire Group, and also dating a teacher at Empire High School named Joon Hyun Joo (Im Joon Eun). A few others are Lee Hyo Shin (Kang Ha Neul) who is the son of the attorney general and is shown to be quite stressed about the pressure that comes from his family. Now that you’ve got a basic understanding of the main cast so far, let’s get on to some must watch scenes.

Any scene with Lee Bo Na and Yoon Chan Young. The drama starts with them already a couple, so we get the cuteness right off the bat. Watching it you may think she’s a brat and is annoying, but Bo Na is much more than that. What little we see of them, we can tell Chan Young and Bo Na deeply care about each other. Trust me, their scenes only get better.

The very awkward let’s-introduce-our-kids lunch scene. Esther Lee and Choi Dong Wook have announced their business partnership… er, marriage and now want to introduce their kids: Rachel and Young Do. Right away, you can neither of them are happy, but it’s Young Do’s “My sister is just my type” that just takes this meal to a whole other direction. Of course, he uses the opportunity to leave the table and Rachel follows suit. I like this scene because you can see how lonely both of them are, but being heirs to major companies doesn’t give them much say in who their parents decide to marry.

Episode 2’s scene with Kim Nam Yoon (Won and Tan’s dad) and Jung Ji Sook (Wife #2 who refuses to divorce). It may seem kinda weird to like this scene, but it gives a better perspective into the Kim household, mainly with the Chairman’s relationship issues. From this little scene with Nam Yoon and Ji Sook speaking then when Won showed up, it shows how this family’s dynamic has been and how awkward their living situation is. It may be a very cold scene, but I still think it’s amazing and very well written.

Any scene that had Tan looking longingly at Eun Sang. It’s not because I think Lee Min Ho is extremely hot (I totally do btw), but it showed how lonely he was and how much he could empathize with Eun Sang. Yes, he’s falling for her and it’s obvious but the way he’s stared at her just made him look like he had so much to say to her. When she cries it looks like it hurts him as well, which says a lot for a chaebol living it up abroad. Tan is very lonely and his face always says it, especially since he met Eun Sang.

The last must watch scene for right now on my list is the scene in Rachel’s hotel room. She’s been calling Tan, but he’s been ignoring her calls and the way she stares at her phone is just heartbreaking. It’s even worse when her phone finally does ring and it’s her mom asking about her fiancee, Rachel lies about everything and you can see how hurt she is. I know a lot of viewers don’t like her, but I really like her and know there is much more to her story than meets the eye.
