On October 19, the “Korean Entertainment 10th Anniversary Awards in Japan” opened to recognize the artists who helped spread the Hallyu fever.
On this night, actor Bae Yong Jun received the overall “Daesang,” the most prestigious award of the evening, as well as a “Korean Drama Daesang” in the category for male actors, concluding the night with two awards. Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong won the “Music Daesang” for the male solo artist category, snagging the best award for male solo artists. Actress Yoon Eun Hye also won the “Korean Drama Daesang” in the female actress category.
Regarding his wins, two-time award winner Bae Yong Jun said, “Being able to share the same seats with my junior colleagues gives today an even greater meaning,” and added, “It’s because of these very talented junior colleagues that Hallyu’s future will become brighter,” showing his professionalism and care as a veteran actor.
In addition, Kim Hyun Joong commented, “Through my songs, dance, and acting, I will work harder to become an artist who continues to help spread Hallyu,” expressing his gratitude for his prestigious music win in the male solo artist category.
After giving his speech, Kim Hyun Joong gave an eccentric special performance of “Your Story” and “Unbreakable,” from his latest album, in front of the other artists and 5000 fans.
The fact that Japanese citizens constituted the majority of the votes for “Korean Entertainment 10th Anniversary Awards in Japan” made the awards even more meaningful.
A representative of the awards commented, “It’s an honor to stand on the same stage with Bae Yong Jun, the person who started Hallyu, as well as the front-runner of Hallyu, Kim Hyun Joong, because as we look back at the last ten years we can see the progression of Hallyu, and anticipate the future of Hallyu.”
