“The Alumni” Knocks “Thor” Out of the No. 1 Spot

The Alumni” (or “The Commitment“) took the number one spot at the box office on its opening day, November 6.

According to the Korean Film Commission’s total ticket sales count, “The Alumni” brought 125,672 viewers to the cinema on its first day of release, earning it first place at the box office. The combined total number of viewers to date goes up to 132,183, including those who attended the premiere.

With that, “The Alumni” knocked Hollywood blockbuster “Thor: The Dark World” off its first place spot, which had been sitting at number one since opening on October 30.

Group BIGBANG’s T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun) returns to the big screen after a hiatus of three years in the movie “The Alumni.” His character is left with no choice but to become a North Korean spy in order to save his one and only sister. T.O.P has received positive reviews for his action scenes and plaintive eyes.

“The Alumni” has been number one in ticket reservations since its opening day, which might be a sign of box office success. The film has also received a lot of interest abroad, having been sold to Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia while it was in the production stages.

On the same day, November 6, “Thor: The Dark World” sold 75,180 tickets (total accumulated sales: 1,270,643), “The Accomplice” (or “Blood and Ties”) sold 34,448 tickets (1439316), “Gravity” sold 34,084 tickets (2,419,662) and “No Breathing” came in fifth with 16,606 tickets (335,372).
