Kollaboration Star Aims to Save a Life, Announces Guest Judges, Pre-Show Festivities

Kollaboration Star 2013 marks the event’s return to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, where Kollaboration first reached a record number of donor registrations for its community partner Asians in Miracle Marrow Matches (A3M).  In 2006, Kollaboration set an all time record by registering 140 bone marrow donors for A3M’s Be the Match registry, and now in 2013, it aims to beat this record during Kollaboration Star on November 16. This recruitment drive in particular will work towards finding a match for Pasadena local Sofia Flores, a 23 month old toddler with an aggressive form of leukemia. Kollaboration Star has also announced its panel of guest judges, which includes many influential Asian American names in entertainment and media: Jane Cha, Executive Vice President and Head of Production at Full Picture Entertainment; Bing Chen, YouTube Global Creator Development & Management Lead at Google; Arden Cho, popular singer, model, and actress currently filming MTV’s Teen Wolf; Philip Fung, one of the early engineers at Facebook and co founder of the A3Foundation; Eric Kim, Vice President of Current Programs at CBS Television; Sang Kyu Kim, writer/producer of TV series including “The Walking Dead”; and Phil Yu, founder and editor of popular Asian American news and culture blog Angry Asian Man.

On November 16, “Kollaboration Star 2013,” the largest Asian-American talent competition, will have finalists from all over North America battle it out for a $20,000 grand prize. The finalists include Mikey “Silver-Yo” Silverio from Houston, John & Daniel Rhee from Los Angeles, &Blue from San Francisco, Troy & Ariel from Seattle, Plaitwrights and Charleston Relay from Toronto, and Dave Yoon from Washington D.C.

Previously, it was announced that special guest performer David Choi, who will be joining hip-hop legends Tiger JK, Yoon Mi Rae, and Bizzy on stage for a collaborative performance of ”The Cure”!

Kollaboration is an Asian Pacific Islander American/Canadian non profit organization dedicated to promoting positive and accurate perceptions of APIA/Cs by not only providing a platform for young artists to showcase their talents, but also supporting the APIA/C community as a whole. Founded in 2000 by Paul PK Kim, the Kollaboration movement began with a single show in Los Angeles and has since then expanded to 13 other cities, all united under Kollaboration’s mission statement and mantra  “Empowerment through Entertainment.”
