Hyorin Talks About Her Solo Album "Love&Hate" + Performances from The Showcase

Sistar’s Hyorin held a media showcase for her first solo album “Love&Hate” at the Ilji Art Hall in Seoul on November 26. She performed live both title tracks from her album, “One Way Love” and “Lonely,” as well as “Stalker,” featuring rapper Mad Clown.

LOEN Music uploaded a video of the showcase on their official YouTube channel on November 27.

In the video, Hyorin talks about the pressures of becoming a solo artist. She confessed that she was worried if she could do well, but did her best to meet the expectations of those around her. She talked about the differences between Sistar’s Hyorin and solo Hyorin; in Sistar, she shows a powerful and strong image, but as a solo artist, she plans to show the more feminine side of herself with this album. 

She talked about wanting to break the expectations that people had for her, and show them a softer side rather than more powerful dancing.

Hyorin explained the title track “Lonely,” a British retropop song, as being a song about a girl who has been hurt many times by love, but still wants to believe that love will come.

“Stalker” is a song by Kim Dong Hoon, featuring rapper Mad Clown, and is about someone who can’t let go of a love that’s already ended, and is always hanging around. The creepy lyrics, addictive melody and piano accompaniment, Hyorin’s mournful vocals paired with Mad Clown’s strong rap come together for a fantasy-like experience. 

She revealed that she had no experience with bad boys, so she had to imagine what it would be like in “One Way Love,” a straight talking song expressing the hurt received from a selfish lover. She says that if it was her in that situation, she’d yell at him and ask why he only cares about himself, but in order to show a softer, weaker side, she had to express herself in a more sensitive way. The song features some sexy choreography.

Hyorin’s solo album is a full-length album mostly about love. The album contains various genres and music styles that she wanted to experiment with, stuff you wouldn’t normally get from Sistar. She is currently actively promoting the album.
