Crown J Finishes Self-Reflection, Comeback in March

Rapper Crown J will be coming back in March 2014. The new album will be his first release in six years, after “Fly Boy” in 2008.

He revealed on December 31, “It’s time for me to come out. I’m planning to release a digital single first in March, and then either a full album or a mini-album.”

The digital single will be a new, self-written hip hop track, while the album will include the new track, along with songs he’s performed before but didn’t released, and other tracks that he has been working on.

Crown J had planned for a comeback last year, holding his comeback showcase in June 2012 at a club in Seoul, but the comeback fell through. He’s been shuttling between Korea and America, focused on charity work and his music, and he’s decided that it’s time to resume activities to repay fans for their support.

However, his first comeback project is not through music or broadcast activities, but rather a lead role in the movie, “Hype Nation 3D,” alongside Jay Park. The movie opens on January 16. Jay Park’s “Hype Nation” had commenced filming in 2010, but the production went under after being defrauded. It’s now been revived, and details of the fraud have been worked into the movie, hence it’s new Korean title “Hype Nation: Hip Hop Hustler.” The movie is slated to be a mix of a showdown between B-boy teams, romance and action.

Crown J took some time off from the entertainment industry after he was charged with marijuana possession, assaulting his former manager and forcibly obtaining legal documents. He was later acquitted of the assault charges.

Crown J moved to America at the age of 14 and was admitted to read Economics at UCLA, but later returned to Korea to do his military service. He debuted in 2006 with his first album “One & Only,” receiving attention for his title song “V.I.P.” For those newer to the Korean entertainment scene, he also appeared in 2008 on MBC’s “We Got Married” series with singer Seo In Young, earning the couple earning the nickname “Ant Couple.”

Crown J is under his own label, Fly Boy Entertainment, and has remained active via his Twitter account.
