Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2014 – January Week 2
As expected, IU’s “Friday” becomes our new No. 1 song this week. Despite having no promotions, this song won all three TV network music show last week, and also tops Billboard Korea. As a result, “Friday” moves up six spots and easily won this week with a high score. Congratulations to IU.
Moving up seven spots to a distant second is veteran R&B quartet Brown Eyed Soul. Their song “You” have a strong showing in GAON and Billboard Korea, and also in the top five in TV Network rankings.
There are four new songs in the top 10 this week. Ballad singer Zi-A moves up 24 big spots to No. 4 with her latest hit “I Knew It.” This song is a preview single of Zi-A’s upcoming album which will be released later this month. It is a guitar and string driven sad ballad. The emotional lyrics are about a woman leaving her love with a sad heart. Meanwhile, Zi-A and Seo In Guk’s duet “Breakup Couple” is still at No. 10 this week.
There is a surprise top five song on our chart this week. Underground rapper Beenzino has his first crossover hit “Dali, Van, Picasso,” moving up 12 spots to No. 5. The song title borrows the names of three great artists that inspire Beenzino: Dali, Van Gogh, and Picasso.
Moving up 21 spots to No. 6 is R&B ballad duo Vibe’s latest hit “Heaven.” It is a pre-released track from Vibe’s upcoming sixth album. “Heaven” features Big Mama’s Lee Young Hyun, 4men’s Shin Yong Jae, Lim Se Yoon, and Bell-a4’s Wonji. Written by Vibe’s Ryu Jae Hyun, “Heaven” samples Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Cantata No. 156” with a heartwarming melody.
A collaboration between two powerful vocalists is at No. 8 this week. Ali and Yim Jae Bum duets for the first time with “I Love You.” This orchestral ballad expresses the sorrow of a break up. It starts off calm but reaches a climax on the chorus part. “I Love You” moves up 14 spots this week to No. 8.
