SHINee's Jonghyun Was Envious of Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon’s Singing Abilities

SHINee member Jonghyun recently gave high praise to Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon for her vocal ability. The two are currently promoting “Breath,” a duet by project ballad group, SM The Ballad.

The duo appeared on Mnet’s “Wide Entertainment News – The Music Interview” on February 18.

Jonghyun said of Taeyeon’s singing ability, “Taeyeon’s expressive power gives me the feeling that she has been through a lot, and that she has experienced love and separation. But I felt the same way even when she was a student and trainee. She was born with the a remarkable ability to express herself.”

When Jonghyun was a trainee, Taeyeon “was so good that he often felt envious.” Referring to the SM Entertainment internal trainee review system, he said, “Whenever we received our scores, I would always be second and Taeyeon would be first. It’s not that I wanted to beat Taeyeon, but I went to the review every weekend hoping that I would have the chance to be number 1 at least once. I listened to Taeyeon singing and made many observations.”

Jonghyun and Taeyeon are currently actively promoting their SM The Ballad duet track “Breath.”
