Details of Kim So Yeon's Voluntary Work for the Visually Impaired Emerge

Actress Kim So Yeon has been finding time in her busy schedule to record materials for use by the visually impaired. News agencies are reporting that the star has been lending her vocal skills as part of an effort to create audiobooks for avid readers who are unable or find it hard to read conventional books.

Kim So Yeon began on the project in May last year in conjunction with the Seongbuk Braille Library. According to the library, volunteers are required to commit to taking part in up to three recording sessions per week over a period of three months. Once recording is complete it takes just over a month before library members can borrow the finished CDs. Among the books she has helped record is Kate DiCamillo’s 2006 novel “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane“, made popular in by the Korea SBS drama “Man from the Stars“.

A spokesperson for the library said, “Kim Soo Yeon has been one of our most active and helpful volunteers. She is very sociable and polite with the other volunteers, too. Many of our members are big fans of her work. It’s been a positive relationship for everyone involved.” 

Her entertainment agency, Namoo Actors, confirmed the news, explaining that Kim So Yeon has often been seen rushing from the studios of tvN, where she had been filming the drama “I Need Romance 3“. An agency spokesperson said, “As soon as she finishes filming, she often goes straight to the library’s recording studios to do her voluntary work. She has a real passion for the work.”
