MBC Apologizes for Obvious Product Placement in "We Got Married" Episode
Broadcasting network MBC comes clean to their faithful viewers as they make a formal apology on April 26 regarding an incident in one of their shows, “We Got Married.”
While some viewers might not have minded seeing the “lovey dovey couple” of Yoon Han and Lee So Yeon trying on products at a certain cosmetics shop nor the posters, labels, and other info related to the brand, the scene didn’t seem to sit well with the Korea Communication Standards Commission.
MBC admitted to their fault saying, “It’s true that there were scenes in the episode of ‘We Got Married’ aired last January 11 that showed sponsored products in close detail and could have the same effect as an advertisement.”
As a violation to Article 46, Section 1 of the Broadcasting Review Regulations (limited to advertising effects), there is a possibility for the broadcast company to receive a warning and for a representative of the program to be under disciplinary action according to the decision of the Korea Communication Standards Commission.
The network added, “We would like to inform you of the following disciplinary actions that can be undertaken. Moving forward, we will observe laws and regulations of the ‘Broadcasting Review Regulations’ and exert our utmost effort in broadcasting good programs.”
