Find out Which Variety Shows Will Start Airing This Week

It has been two weeks since the tragic Sewol ferry accident occurred, causing Korea to pause and mourn for those lost in the accident. With the news of the accident having been covered in every broadcast, variety shows and music shows have been halted in the mean time. Yet slowly dramas have begun to broadcast again on television, raising the question of when variety shows will return.

However, it seems like broadcast systems have been cautious to air entertainment shows due to the somber mood of the nation. CJ E&M revealed that Mnet‘s “M! Countdown” and “Hot Moment, XOXO” that were set to air on May 1 will continue to be postponed, while the fate of the May 2 broadcast of “Trot X” is still being decided.

On the other hand, tvN‘s “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit” will broadcast on May 9, while Olive TV‘s “Master Chef Korea 3” will air on May 10. Both shows will hold their press conference on May 7 before their first broadcasts. Furthermore, to show respect to those mourning the ferry tragedy, tvN’s daily sitcom “Potato Star” excluded the audience background laughing track  from their episodes.

In regards to the return of variety shows and music shows, a broadcast representative expressed, “We are still watching the situation, and from these observations we will decide how to go about broadcasting shows. However, variety shows will start to air on television, and we predict that music shows will start back again in one or two weeks.”

We hope that these variety shows and music shows will be able to brighten up the mood in Korea during these times of national struggles.
