Winner Talks Music and Upcoming Debut
Boy group Winner, with their debut right around the corner, recently held an interview with American news site Vice.com.
On the current status of the album, the group revealed that they have finished recording for all of their songs and that they’re in the final stages of production. When asked about what sets them apart from other groups, leader Kang Seung Yoon said, “All of the members participated in writing, composing, and producing for the album. What makes us different is that we personally produce and create our own music.”
How long have you been writing music? Song Minho said, “I’ve liked music since I was young; I started when I was 12 or 13. It really dove into it when I became a trainee at YG.” Member Nam Taehyun said, “I’ve always liked music. With or without lyrics. It’s only been a year since I’ve been making complete tracks that include lyrics and melodies.”
Vice.com told Lee Seung Hoon that they were impressed with his dance to “Don’t Stop the Music” by Jamie Cullum, and tossed him the question of whether he would be choreographing for the group at all. He said, “Rather than choreography, I have a lot of interest in the overall performance and stage presence, so I’m working on learning more about that.”
Kang Seung Yoon also was given the chance to reflect on the group’s time on the show “Win“: “I think we grew a lot through our competition with Team B. If we didn’t have such great competitors as Team B, it would’ve been hard for us to do as well as we did. It was a time when we learned a lot about our team dynamics and working together.”
Leader Kang Seung Yoon said, “In 5 years, we want to be ‘winners.’ We’d like to be a group that’s deserving of the name ‘Winner.’ And it’d be awesome if we could do a world tour.”
Lee Seung Hoon also said they’d like to perform alongside Team B someday, both of the groups as artists. “We’ve always energized each other and helped each other out.”
Starting on June 24, Winner will be releasing cuts of their shoot in New York.
