The Prince ultimately died of suffocation after eight days of imprisonment in a big chest.

After the first shoot, Song Kang Ho said, “the film ‘Sado’ has made me shiver, the pressure I get from the material is so great. Through my role as King Yeongjo I am experiencing something I’ve never felt before.”

Director Lee Joon Ik added, “characters in history cannot just exist as one character. When we talk of Prince Sado we cannot leave out his father King Yeongjo, and when we try to understand King Yeongjo, we can’t forget about Prince Sado. I wanted to approach the tragic character of Prince Sado, and the human relationship between him and his father King Yeongjo.” He also promised to depict Sado in a different light.

“Sado” will open in theaters next year.
