KBS's Upcoming Drama

The production team behind the movie “The Face Reader” is asking for a prohibition against the production of broadcasting of KBS’s upcoming drama The King’s Face.”

On August 25, Jupiter Film, the production company behind “The Face Reader,” filed an injunction against KBS Media to ban the “The King’s Face” on account of copyright infringement and unfair competition.

Jupiter Film’s side stated, “Jupiter Film is the copyright beholder and production company behind “The Face Reader,” and since planning the movie starting in December 2012, Jupiter Film was using the “One Source Multi Use” strategy, preparing a drama and a novel at the same time. We approached KBS Media as a co-production company for the drama in 2012, and they even mentioned writer Lee Hyang Hee as the writer of the drama during our planning, but the agreement fell apart.”

Jupiter Film’s side continued by stating, “After that, we tried collaborating with another production company and broadcaster, and on October 9, 2013, the press reported that there were plans for a drama based off “The Face Reader” that would run for 24 episodes.”

Jupiter Film asserted that “the team that was collaborating with writer Lee Hyang Hee is still intact, and their content for “The King’s Face” is copying “The Face Reader’s” original content.”

Jupiter Film added, “We will have the production and broadcast of “The King’s Face” suspended.”

“The Face Reader” is a hit 2013 film starring Lee Jung Jae, Kim Hye Soo, Jo Jung Suk, Lee Jong Suk, and Song Kang Ho. Read more about it here.

Meanwhile, earlier in August, “The King’s Face” was looking to cast actress Son Ye Jin in the lead role, but she ultimately declined the offer. The drama is currently slated to air in November, after the completion of “Iron Man.”
