SHINee's Onew Updates Fans with a Handwritten Letter and Responds to "Ice Bucket Challenge" Nomination

Male group SHINee‘s leader Onew has updated his fans about his current condition and participated in the “Ice Bucket Challenge” in a meaningful way.

On August 24, the idol shared a handwritten letter through his personal Twitter account. The message says:

“Hello, this is Onew.

I am participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge after being nominated by my friends actor Seo Ha Joon, soccer player Lee Bum Young, and JACE‘s vocal Seung Hyun.

Due to being in the midst of recovering, I am greeting you with a donation and a handwritten letter instead, but I am glad to participate in the campaign, even simply like this.

I hope that my feelings are delivered, and that everyone fighting against the disease will stay strong and happy.”

While everyone nominated is supposed to respond to the challenge in under 24 hours by shooting a video pouring a bucket filled with water on his/her head, Onew decided to carefully donate $100 to the ALS Association. His warmhearted greeting has delighted both fans of SHINee and supporters of those fighting against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In June this year, Onew underwent a throat surgery and has since been taking a break from all official activities.
