Actor Jang Geun Suk Caught Up in Tax Scandal, Agency Denies Allegations of Tax Evasion
Actor Jang Geun Suk’s agency has recently stated its position on the allegations of the actor’s reported tax evasion.
About the current situation of the actor being suspected of evading about two billion KRW (~1.96 million USD), the actor’s reps told Star News on September 2, “We have not heard directly from the National Tax Service (NTS) about the matter. If we had heard from them, we would have responded right away. We are very taken aback. We’re only aware that the National Tax Service is currently investigating entertainment agency ‘H.’”
Earlier, on September 1, it was reported that the Seoul Regional Tax International Trade Bureau received all contracts and accounting information this past June of the celebrities connected with ‘H’ agency to check for tax evasion.
Since 2009, Jang Geuk Suk and more than 20 other Hallyu stars have signed a contract with ‘H’ agency to advance into China and organize their activities there. It has been revealed that during the process of investigation, it was found that there was a difference in Jang Geun Suk’s actual net gain and the income reported to the NTS.
This past July 14, the actor’s agency, Tree J Company, had already denied reports being made about his suspected tax evasion of millions of won, saying that it was an “obvious misreport,” and that Tree J Company has always proceeded legally with the Asia tours, fan meetings, and other events in China, from contracts to all other files.
