Ueno Juri:

Japanese actress Ueno Juri, who rose to stardom through her role as Nodame in the original version of “Nodame Cantabile,” has shared her thoughts on the upcoming Korean remake of the Japanese hit drama.

During her recent visit to Korea, the actress sat down with Yonhap News to discuss her expectations for the anticipated drama starring Shim Eun Kyung. As Ueno Juri herself became one of Japan’s most loved actresses in 2006, when “Nodame Cantabile” enjoyed explosive popularity, the piece holds a special place in her heart.

In regards to the Korean version, she said, “I don’t think I can set any expectations for it. I just can’t wait to see it.”

“I was glad to hear that a Korean remake is in the works. Seems like the Korean fans were truly touched by the drama. I anticipate it a lot. ‘Nodame’ was my first lead role. When we started filming, I had no idea a special version or a movie would be produced later on,” the actress explained.

While the domestic audience has been excited over the news of a Korean version, the big question has been: who will take on the role of Nodame? With Ueno Juri setting the bar high with her flawless performance, fans have kept a keen eye on the casting process, but to everyone’s pleasant surprise, the character will be played by the talented Shim Eun Kyung.

Ueno Juri revealed she truly enjoyed watching Shim Eun Kyung in “Miss Granny,” and added, “I heard Shim Eun Kyung is currently the same age as I was while filming ‘Nodame,’ and this is her first lead role in a drama. She is in a similar situation as I was, and I hope she enjoys success through the drama. I heard Korean actors have strong mind control when it comes to challenges. I believe the cast is perfectly fit for the drama.”

“Tomorrow Cantabile,” the Korean remake of “Nodame Cantabile,” will premiere in mid-October on KBS2.
