Joo Won Responds to Comparison with Kim Myung Min and Tamaki Hiroshi

Actor Joo Won has recently mentioned how he feels about being compared to senior actor Kim Myung Min as well as the Japanese actor Tamaki Hiroshi.

On the production presentation of the upcoming KBS 2TV drama “Tomorrow Cantabile” held on October 8, Joo Won shared his opinion about being compared to the veteran actor Kim Myung Min, who has played an orchestra maestro in “Beethoven’s Virus,” and Tamaki Hiroshi, who played the lead role in the Japanese drama “Nodame Cantabile.”

“There’s a part (in ‘Tomorrow Cantabile’) wherein I made a reference to Kim Myung Min sunbae’s acting,” said Joo Won. “I saw ‘Beethoven’s Virus’ and as expected, Kim Myung Min sunbae-nim’s acting was superb and he was able to bring out the atmosphere really well. I don’t know whether I could give off the same feeling but I communicated with the (orchestra) members and I think, technically, I can do better. I used my body and I tried to show more of the techniques,” said Joo Won.

As for being compared to Tamaki Hiroshi, the actor who played the lead role of Shinichi Chiaki in the live action adaptation of “Nodame Cantabile,” Joo Won said, “Because it was a drama that brought out a mania (among the viewers), clearly, I hope to have the same appearance as Tamaki Hiroshi. I hope I would make do.”

“I don’t think I can (act) similar to Tamaki Hiroki, though. The character of Cha Yoo Jin that I will portray is definitely a different character. A comparison is reasonable so I’ll just accept it but I won’t be confined in there so much,” said Joo Won.

“I couldn’t help it if we would be compared (to each other). It’s something that I should just bear with,” added Joo Won.

In “Tomorrow cantabile,” a remake of the Japanese drama “Nodame Cantabile,” Joo Won will play the role of the talented musician Cha Yoo Jin who aspires to be a conductor.

“Tomorrow Cantabile,” based on Japan’s “Nodame Cantabile,” is set to air its first episode on October 13, taking over the airtime for “Discovery of Love.”
